3. Setup and Installation

The AXA Solid Plus lock can be mounted in several ways to suit various bicycle frames. Choose the method that best fits your bike.

Mounting Methods:

  1. Method 1: Flexible Fixing Set

This is the standard mounting procedure and is suitable for a wide variety of frame shapes. Use the provided flexible fixing set to attach the lock securely to your bicycle's frame.

  2. Method 2: Standard Frame Mounting

If your bicycle frame has pre-drilled holes in the seatstay specifically designed for a ring lock, you can mount the AXA Solid Plus directly using these holes. Ensure proper alignment and secure fastening.

  3. Method 3: Cantilever Brake Mounting

For bicycles with cantilever brakes, an additional mounting plate (not included) may be required to attach the ring lock. Consult a bicycle mechanic if you are unsure about this method.

4. Operation

Locking Your Bicycle:

  1. Ensure the lock is properly mounted on your bicycle frame.
  2. Insert the key into the lock cylinder.
  3. Push the ergonomic button to engage the locking mechanism, securing the rear wheel.
  4. Remove the key. Your bicycle's rear wheel is now immobilized.

Using the Plug-in Cable/Chain:

For added security, the AXA Solid Plus allows you to connect a plug-in cable or chain (such as the included Newton PI 150 cable) to secure your bike to a fixed object like a lamppost or bike rack.

  1. With the frame lock engaged, locate the plug-in port on the side of the AXA Solid Plus lock.
  2. Insert the pin of the plug-in cable or chain into this port.
  3. Wrap the cable/chain around a fixed object and then back to the lock, ensuring it passes through a part of your bicycle frame or wheel.
  4. The plug-in cable/chain will be secured by the main lock mechanism.

Unlocking Your Bicycle:

  1. Insert the key into the lock cylinder.
  2. Turn the key to disengage the locking mechanism. The lock will open, and any connected plug-in cable/chain will be released.
  3. Remove the key.

Online Key Service:

AXA offers an online key service for convenience. In case you lose your keys or need duplicates, you can utilize this service. Ensure you have noted the key number, which is typically found on the key itself, not the lock.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and smooth operation of your AXA Solid Plus lock.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the lock body with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
  • Lubrication: The lock mechanism benefits from occasional lubrication. Use a high-quality, long-lasting grease or a specialized lock lubricant. Avoid thin lubricating oils, as they may not provide adequate protection or may attract dirt. Apply lubricant sparingly to the keyhole and moving parts of the shackle.
  • Key Care: Keep your keys clean and free of debris. Avoid forcing the key if it feels stiff.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store your bicycle in a dry environment to prevent corrosion, especially if the lock is exposed to moisture.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your AXA Solid Plus lock, consider the following common solutions:

  • Stiff Key or Mechanism: If the key is difficult to insert or turn, or the lock mechanism feels stiff, apply a small amount of lock lubricant into the keyhole and work the key in and out several times. Ensure the key is fully inserted before attempting to turn it.
  • Lock Not Engaging/Disengaging: Check for any obstructions around the shackle or within the mechanism. Ensure the lock is clean and properly lubricated. If the issue persists, verify that the lock is correctly mounted and not misaligned.
  • Lost Keys: Utilize the AXA online key service. You will need the key number to order replacements. It is advisable to record your key number in a safe place immediately after purchase.

For persistent issues not resolved by these steps, contact AXA customer support.
