4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Air Pressure Settings
The recommended operating pressure for this spray gun is 40 PSI, with a working pressure of 10 PSI. The average air consumption is 4.5 CFM. Use the included air regulator to precisely adjust the air pressure to suit your specific paint material and project requirements.
Note: Different paint types and viscosities may require slight adjustments to air pressure for optimal atomization and spray pattern. Always test on a scrap surface before applying to your final project.
4.2 Adjusting Spray Pattern and Fluid Flow
The NEIKO 31214A features three adjustable valve knobs for precise control:
- Fluid Control Knob: Located at the back of the gun, this knob controls the amount of paint released. Turn clockwise to decrease fluid flow, counter-clockwise to increase.
- Fan Pattern Control Knob: Typically located on the side, this knob adjusts the shape of the spray pattern from a round spot to a wide fan.
- Air Adjustment Knob: Located near the air inlet, this knob fine-tunes the air pressure at the gun.

4.3 Spraying Technique
Maintain a consistent distance from the surface (typically 6-8 inches) and move the gun parallel to the surface. Overlap each pass by about 50% to ensure even coverage. Release the trigger at the end of each pass to avoid paint buildup.

5. Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your NEIKO spray gun.
5.1 Cleaning After Each Use
- Empty Paint Cup: Remove any remaining paint from the cup.
- Flush with Solvent: Pour a small amount of appropriate cleaning solvent (e.g., paint thinner for oil-based paints, water for water-based paints) into the cup. Spray the solvent through the gun until it runs clear.
- Disassemble: Carefully disassemble the air cap, fluid nozzle, and needle. Use the multi-size wrench for assistance if needed.
- Clean Components: Use the provided cleaning brush and solvent to thoroughly clean all paint-contacting parts. Pay special attention to the air cap holes and fluid nozzle.
- Clean Cup: Clean the inside of the aluminum cup. Some users find that paint does not stick to the plastic cups as much, but thorough cleaning is always recommended.
- Dry and Reassemble: Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling. For water-based paints, spraying a small amount of denatured alcohol through the gun after water can help evaporate residual moisture and prevent rust.
5.2 Long-Term Storage
For long-term storage, ensure the gun is completely clean and dry. Store in a cool, dry place to prevent rust and damage.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Inconsistent Spray Pattern / Spitting | Improper air pressure, paint too thick, clogged nozzle/air cap, loose components. | Adjust air pressure (start at 30-40 PSI), thin paint, clean nozzle/air cap, ensure all parts are tightened. |
| Paint Leaking from Air Cap Threads | Loose air cap, damaged threads, lack of sealant. | Ensure air cap is tightened. Consider using thread tape on the air cap threads if leaking persists. |
| Needle Not Returning Fully / Paint Dribbling | Dirty needle, stiff gasket, weak return spring. | Clean the needle and the area around the brass screw. If the spring is weak, it may need to be stretched slightly or replaced. |
| Rust Development | Improper drying after cleaning, high humidity. | After cleaning with water, spray denatured alcohol through the gun to displace water and promote quick drying. Ensure thorough drying before storage. |
