Model: PKS-200

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Progressive International Prepworks Brown Sugar ProKeeper. This container is designed to maintain the freshness and softness of brown sugar, preventing it from hardening. By following these instructions, you can ensure optimal performance and longevity of your ProKeeper.

2. Product Overview

The Prepworks Brown Sugar ProKeeper is a 1.5-quart capacity container specifically engineered for brown sugar storage. It features an airtight silicone seal, stainless steel hinges, and an easy-catch latch to secure the lid. A key component is the removable terra cotta disk, which provides the necessary moisture to keep brown sugar soft.

  • Container Body: Clear plastic body with measurement markings, holding up to a 2-pound bag of brown sugar.
  • Lid: Features an airtight silicone seal, stainless steel hinges, and an easy-catch latch for secure closure.
  • Terra Cotta Disk: A removable, porous disk designed to be soaked in water and then placed in the container to release moisture, keeping brown sugar soft.

3. Setup

  1. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the container body and lid in the dishwasher or by hand with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
  2. Prepare Terra Cotta Disk: Submerge the terra cotta disk completely in clean water for approximately 15 minutes. This allows the disk to absorb sufficient moisture.

  4. Insert Disk: After soaking, remove the disk from the water and gently pat it dry with a towel to remove excess surface water. Snap the disk into the designated holder on the underside of the ProKeeper lid.

4. Operating Instructions

  1. Fill Container: Place your brown sugar into the ProKeeper container. The 1.5-quart capacity is designed to comfortably hold a standard 2-pound bag of brown sugar.
  2. Brown sugar inside the ProKeeper container with the terra cotta disk partially submerged in the sugar.

Image 4: Brown sugar stored within the ProKeeper, with the terra cotta disk providing moisture.

  3. Close Lid: Align the lid with the container and press down firmly until the easy-catch latch engages, creating an airtight seal. Ensure the silicone gasket is properly seated around the rim of the container.
  4. Storage: Store the ProKeeper in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The terra cotta disk will gradually release moisture, keeping the brown sugar soft and pliable.
  5. Re-moisten Disk: For continuous freshness, re-soak the terra cotta disk every 2-3 months, or whenever you notice the brown sugar beginning to harden. Repeat step 3.2 and 3.3.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: The ProKeeper container and lid are dishwasher safe. For best results, place them on the top rack. The terra cotta disk should be hand-washed with water only; do not use soap, as it can clog the pores and reduce its effectiveness.
  • Drying: Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling and storing brown sugar.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the silicone seal for any signs of wear or damage. A damaged seal may compromise the airtightness of the container.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Brown Sugar is Hardening: This indicates the terra cotta disk has dried out. Remove the disk, re-soak it in water for 15 minutes, and reinsert it into the lid. Ensure the lid is securely latched.
  • Lid is Difficult to Open/Close: Ensure the latch mechanism is clean and free of sugar residue. Apply gentle, even pressure when closing the lid to engage the seal. Avoid forcing the latch.
  • Moisture Inside Container (Excessive): Ensure the terra cotta disk was not over-soaked or dripping wet when placed in the lid. Pat it dry to remove surface water after soaking.
