Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating power tools. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders, especially children and pets.
  • Inspect the pole saw for any damage or loose parts before each use.
  • Keep hands and feet away from the chain when the tool is plugged in or operating.
  • Do not operate in wet conditions or near flammable liquids or gases.
  • Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance or adjustments.
  • Use both hands to grip the pole saw firmly during operation.

Setup

The Sun Joe SWJ802E requires minimal assembly. Follow these steps to prepare your pole saw for operation:

  1. Attach the Pole Sections: Align the two pole sections and push them together until they securely click into place. Ensure the locking mechanisms are fully engaged.
  2. Install the Chain and Bar: Carefully install the 8-inch Oregon cutting bar and chain onto the saw head. Refer to the detailed instructions in the included manual for proper chain tensioning.
  3. Add Bar and Chain Oil: Locate the oil reservoir cap on the saw head. Fill the reservoir with a suitable bar and chain oil. The oil tank capacity is 2 fluid ounces. The automatic lubrication system will ensure the chain remains lubricated during operation.

Operating Instructions

The Sun Joe SWJ802E is designed for cutting overhanging limbs and thin logs. Follow these guidelines for effective and safe operation:

  • Power Connection: Connect the pole saw to a 120-volt power source using a suitable outdoor extension cord.
  • Telescoping Pole: The pole extends up to 9.4 feet, providing an overhead reach of up to 15 feet. Adjust the pole length by releasing the locking mechanism, extending to the desired length, and re-engaging the lock.
  • Multi-Angle Head: The saw head can be adjusted to 0, 15, and 30-degree angles for versatile cutting. Rotate the head to the desired angle and secure it before cutting.
  • Cutting Technique:
    • Ensure a stable footing and maintain balance.
    • Engage the safety lock switch, then press the trigger switch to start the motor.
    • Allow the chain to reach full speed before making contact with the branch.
    • Cut branches up to 7.5 inches thick. For larger branches, make multiple cuts.
    • Avoid forcing the saw; let the chain do the work.
    • Be aware of falling branches and clear the area before and after cutting.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your pole saw.

  • Chain Lubrication: The pole saw features an automatic lubrication system. Regularly check the oil level in the reservoir and refill as needed with quality bar and chain oil.
  • Chain Sharpening/Replacement: A dull chain can reduce cutting efficiency and increase strain on the motor. Sharpen or replace the chain as necessary.
  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the saw head, bar, and chain to remove sawdust and debris. Ensure ventilation openings are clear.
  • Storage: Store the pole saw in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children. Disassemble the pole for compact storage if desired.
