Maintenance Procedures

Regular maintenance is vital for the optimal performance and longevity of your Generac generator. Always refer to your generator's specific owner's manual for detailed safety precautions and procedures.

1. Engine Oil Change

The kit includes two quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic engine oil. This oil is formulated for optimal performance in various temperatures.

  1. Ensure the generator is turned off and cooled down.
  2. Locate the oil drain plug and place a suitable container underneath to collect used oil.
  3. Remove the drain plug and the oil fill cap/dipstick. Allow all old oil to drain completely.
  4. Replace the drain plug securely.
  5. Carefully pour the new SAE 5W-30 synthetic engine oil into the oil fill opening. Refer to your generator's manual for the exact oil capacity.
  6. Check the oil level with the dipstick, ensuring it is within the recommended range.
  7. Replace the oil fill cap/dipstick.

2. Oil Filter Replacement

The kit includes one Generac oil filter (Part #: 070185E).

  1. After draining the old engine oil, locate the oil filter.
  2. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter. Be prepared for some oil spillage.
  3. Apply a thin film of new engine oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
  4. Screw on the new oil filter by hand until the gasket makes contact with the engine block. Then, tighten an additional 1/2 to 3/4 turn. Do not overtighten.
  5. After refilling the engine oil, run the generator for a few minutes and check for leaks around the oil filter.

3. Air Filter Replacement

The kit includes one air filter. A clean air filter ensures proper engine breathing and prevents contaminants from entering the engine.

  1. Locate the air filter housing on your generator.
  2. Open the housing by releasing the clips or screws.
  3. Remove the old air filter. Note its orientation.
  4. Clean any debris from inside the air filter housing.
  5. Insert the new air filter, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  6. Close and secure the air filter housing.

4. Spark Plug Replacement

The kit includes two spark plugs. Replacing spark plugs ensures efficient ignition and optimal engine performance.

  1. Ensure the generator is off and cooled. Disconnect the spark plug wires.
  2. Use a spark plug wrench to carefully remove the old spark plugs.
  3. Inspect the new spark plugs for correct gap (refer to your generator's manual for specifications). Adjust if necessary.
  4. Thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand to prevent cross-threading.
  5. Tighten with a spark plug wrench. Do not overtighten; typically, a quarter to half turn after hand-tight is sufficient.
  6. Reconnect the spark plug wires firmly.

5. Service Sticker

Use the included service sticker to record the date and hours of this maintenance service. This helps track future maintenance intervals.
