2. Safety Information

To prevent electric shock, fire, or damage to the unit, please observe the following safety precautions:

  • Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.
  • Do not open the cabinet. Refer servicing to qualified personnel only.
  • Ensure proper ventilation; do not block ventilation openings.
  • Use only the specified power supply (AC100V, 50Hz/60Hz).
  • Unplug the unit from the wall outlet if it will not be used for a long period.
  • Avoid placing the unit near heat sources or in direct sunlight.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the cassette deck from its packaging. Retain all packing materials for future transport or storage. Check that all accessories are present.

3.2 Placement

Place the unit on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive dust or humidity. Ensure adequate space around the unit for proper ventilation. The side panels are constructed from die-cast material for vibration damping.

3.3 Connections

Before making any connections, ensure the unit and all connected components are powered off.

  • Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the AC INlet on the rear panel and then to a standard AC100V, 50Hz/60Hz wall outlet.
  • Audio Input: Connect your audio source (e.g., CD player, receiver) to one of the three available input terminals on the rear panel using RCA cables. This unit supports direct recording.
  • Audio Output: Connect the Line Out terminals to your amplifier or receiver's input using RCA cables. Both fixed and variable output terminals are provided.
  • Headphones: For private listening, connect headphones to the headphone jack on the front panel.

  • Use Dolby B for moderate noise reduction.
  • Use Dolby C for stronger noise reduction, especially with tapes recorded with Dolby C.
  • The unit also incorporates Dolby HX PRO, which dynamically controls bias levels to improve high-frequency recording linearity.

4.4 Advanced Functions

  • Linear Counter: Displays recording/playback time in minutes and seconds. It can switch between two modes.
  • Mode Character Display: Provides clear indication of current operating mode.
  • QMS (Quick Music Sensor): Allows quick access to the beginning of a track.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal sound quality and extends the life of your cassette deck.

5.1 Cleaning Heads and Tape Path

Dust and tape residue can accumulate on the heads, capstan, and pinch rollers, leading to poor sound quality. Clean these components after every 10-20 hours of use, or if you notice a drop in performance.

  1. Open the cassette compartment.
  2. Using a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol, gently clean the surfaces of the record/playback head, erase head, capstan, and pinch rollers.
  3. Allow the components to dry completely before inserting a tape.

5.2 Demagnetization

Over time, the heads can become magnetized, causing increased noise and reduced high-frequency response. Demagnetize the heads periodically (e.g., every 50-100 hours of use) using a tape head demagnetizer. Follow the demagnetizer's instructions carefully.

5.3 General Cleaning

Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
