4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Determine Fireplace Remote Readiness
Before installing the Skytech AF-LMF/R kit, it is crucial to determine if your fireplace is compatible with a remote control system. Look for a switch on the wall, inside the fireplace behind a louver, or on a decorative trim. If a switch is present, your fireplace is likely ready. Alternatively, locate the gas valve and check for terminals marked 'TH', 'TP', or 'TPTH'. The presence of these terminals indicates remote readiness.
Video 4.1: This video from Woodstoves-Fireplaces explains how to identify if your fireplace is remote-ready by checking for switches or specific terminals on the gas valve.
4.2 Gas Valve Installation
The AF-LMF/R kit includes a 225-degree rated valve with an exclusive safety seal. Ensure proper connection of the pilot assembly, damper clamp, valve, solenoid, and flexible lines to the main burner and pilot. Refer to the detailed instructions provided with the kit for specific plumbing and wiring diagrams. It is highly recommended that a qualified technician performs this installation.

4.3 Remote Receiver and Wiring
Connect the remote receiver to the gas valve terminals. The receiver typically has two wires that connect to the 'TH' and 'TP' terminals on the gas valve. Ensure these connections are secure. The remote receiver requires batteries for operation, or it can be powered by an optional AC adapter.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Manual Operation
The gas valve features a manual On/Off control. To operate the fireplace manually, turn the knob on the gas valve to the 'ON' or 'OFF' position as desired. Ensure the pilot light is lit before attempting to turn on the main burner.
5.2 Remote Control Operation
The remote control allows you to turn the fireplace On or Off from a distance. Insert the 2 AAA batteries into the remote control transmitter. Point the remote control towards the fireplace and press the 'ON' or 'OFF' button to activate or deactivate the main burner. The remote control operates on radio frequencies (RF) and does not offer flame modulation or display features for this specific model.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Battery Replacement
The remote control transmitter requires 2 AAA batteries. Replace batteries when the remote control's performance diminishes or the display (if applicable to other models) becomes dim. Ensure correct polarity when inserting new batteries.
6.2 General Care
Keep the remote control and receiver free from dust and moisture. Do not expose to extreme temperatures. Periodically inspect all gas connections for leaks and ensure the pilot assembly is clean and functioning correctly.
7. Troubleshooting
- Fireplace does not turn on with remote: Check remote control batteries. Ensure the remote receiver is properly connected and its batteries (if applicable) are fresh. Verify the gas supply is on and the pilot light is lit.
- Pilot light does not stay lit: This could indicate an issue with the thermocouple or thermopile. Consult a qualified service technician.
- Remote control range is limited: Replace remote batteries. Ensure no obstructions are blocking the signal between the remote and receiver.
- Gas smell: Immediately turn off the gas supply to the appliance. Do not operate any electrical switches. Evacuate the area and call your gas supplier or fire department.
