4. Setup
Before first use, ensure the ice maker is placed on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Allow the unit to stand upright for at least 24 hours before plugging it in.
4.1 Initial Cleaning
- Remove all packaging materials and check for any damage.
- Clean the interior with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
- Drain any residual water through the side-mounted drain plug.
4.2 Water Connection
The IMC-491DC offers two water supply options: manual fill or direct water connection.
- Manual Fill: Open the top lid and pour potable water directly into the water reservoir up to the MAX fill line.
- Direct Water Connection: Connect the included water line to a potable water main and to the designated inlet on the back of the ice maker. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks. The unit will automatically draw water as needed.
5. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to begin making ice with your Whynter IMC-491DC.
5.1 Powering On and Ice Production
- Plug the ice maker into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the unit. The power indicator will illuminate.
- Press the SELECT button to choose your desired ice cube size: Small, Medium, or Large. The selected size indicator will light up.
- The ice maker will begin the ice-making cycle. The first batch of ice typically takes 10-15 minutes.
- When the ice basket is full, the ICE FULL indicator will light up, and the unit will pause production. Remove ice to resume.
- If the water level is low, the ADD WATER indicator will light up. Refill the reservoir or ensure the direct water connection is active.
5.2 Using the Timer Function
The timer allows you to program the ice maker to turn on or off after a set period (0.5 to 18 hours).
- Press the TIMER button. The timer indicator will flash.
- Use the SELECT button to adjust the desired time in 30-minute increments.
- Once the time is set, the timer will activate after a few seconds. The unit will then turn on or off as programmed.
6. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and hygienic operation of your ice maker.
6.1 Cleaning the Ice Maker
- Unplug the appliance from the power outlet.
- Remove the ice basket and clean it with warm, soapy water.
- Drain all water from the reservoir using the side-mounted drain plug.
- For a deeper clean, use the CLEAN function: Fill the reservoir with water and a small amount of white vinegar or a specialized ice maker cleaning solution. Press the CLEAN button. The unit will run a cleaning cycle.
- After the cleaning cycle, drain the cleaning solution and rinse the interior thoroughly with fresh water. Drain again.
- Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth.
6.2 Storage
If the ice maker will not be used for an extended period, drain all water, clean the unit, and allow it to dry completely before storing in a cool, dry place.
