3. Product Features
3.1 IP67 Waterproof and Dust-tight Protection
The IC-F2000 series features a slim 24.5mm (0.96 in) depth and an IP67-rated casing. This design allows the transceiver to withstand immersion in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Its dust-tight construction effectively prevents the ingress of powder dust, sand, mud, and other particulate matter, ensuring reliable operation in harsh environments.
3.2 Enhanced Emergency with Built-in Motion Sensor
Equipped with a built-in motion sensor, the IC-F2000 series can detect its position, state of motion, and non-motion. This capability allows it to send an emergency signal automatically. Functions such as motion detection (e.g., during a chase), lone worker, and man down are programmable, enhancing user safety.
3.3 Selective Calling and Quiet Stand-by
The transceiver includes built-in 2-Tone, 5-Tone, CTCSS, and DTCS signaling capabilities. These features enable group communication and selective calling, allowing users to communicate with specific individuals or groups while maintaining quiet stand-by for others.
3.4 MDC 1200 Compatibility
The IC-F2000 series is compatible with MDC 1200 signaling. Programmable MDC features include PTT ID, Emergency (without ACK transmission), Radio check (RX only), Stun/Revive (RX only), Transmit status messages (LCD types only), and a 100-alias table (LCD types only).
3.5 Clear Audio in Noisy Areas
The large 36mm speaker delivers a clear 800 mW* audio output. A built-in BTL amplifier doubles the audio output power, providing loud and intelligible voice communication, which is crucial for operators working in noisy environments. (*Typical with internal speaker)
3.6 Channel Announcement
When the channel knob is rotated, the radio announces the selected channel number. This feature is convenient for making channel adjustments without needing to visually check the radio, especially in low-light conditions or when the radio is not easily visible.
3.7 Built-in Inversion Voice Scrambler
For secure conversations, the IC-F2000 includes a built-in inversion voice scrambler. Up to 16 different codes are selectable, providing a layer of privacy for your communications.
3.8 Extended Operating Time
The supplied waterproof Li-Ion battery pack, BP-279 (7.2V DC, 1485mAh), provides approximately 14 hours* of operating time. (*Tx:Rx:Standby=5:5:90. Power save function ON.)
4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
- Align the BP-279 battery pack with the grooves on the back of the transceiver.
- Slide the battery pack upwards until it clicks into place.
- Ensure the battery release latch is securely engaged.
4.2 Charging the Battery
- Connect the power adapter to the BC-213 desktop charger.
- Plug the power adapter into an AC outlet.
- Place the transceiver with the battery pack installed into the charging slot of the BC-213.
- The charging indicator light on the charger will illuminate (typically red) to indicate charging in progress. It will change color (typically green) when charging is complete.
4.3 Antenna Attachment
- Hold the base of the antenna and screw it clockwise onto the antenna connector on top of the transceiver.
- Tighten it firmly by hand. Do not overtighten.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On/Off
Rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise to turn the transceiver ON. Continue rotating to increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and turn OFF.
5.2 Channel Selection
Rotate the Channel knob to select your desired operating channel. The radio will announce the channel number as you rotate the knob.
5.3 Transmitting and Receiving
- To Receive: Ensure the radio is powered on and on the correct channel. The speaker will output received audio.
- To Transmit: Press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone (labeled 'MIC') located on the front of the radio. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and return to receive mode.
5.4 Activating Voice Scrambler
The voice scrambler function can be programmed to a specific button by your dealer. Consult your dealer for details on how to activate and deactivate this feature for secure communication.
5.5 Emergency Functions (Programmable)
The motion sensor-based emergency functions (Lone Worker, Man Down, Motion Detection) are programmable. Refer to your dealer or system administrator for configuration and usage of these safety features.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning the Transceiver
Wipe the transceiver with a soft, dry cloth. If it is very dirty, use a cloth dampened with water and a mild detergent, then wipe dry. Do not use strong solvents such as benzine or alcohol, as they can damage the transceiver's surfaces.
6.2 Battery Care
- Always use the specified Icom charger (BC-213) for charging the BP-279 battery pack.
- Avoid exposing the battery to extreme temperatures (hot or cold) as this can reduce its lifespan.
- If the battery will not be used for an extended period, remove it from the transceiver and store it in a cool, dry place.
6.3 Storage
When storing the transceiver for long periods, ensure it is turned off and the battery is removed. Store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Battery is dead or not properly installed. | Charge the battery or re-install it correctly. |
| Cannot transmit or receive | Incorrect channel selected; out of range; antenna not attached. | Select the correct channel; move closer to other radios; attach antenna securely. |
| Poor audio quality | Volume too low; interference; radio too far from microphone. | Adjust volume; move away from sources of interference; speak clearly into microphone. |
| Battery life is short | Battery is old or not fully charged. | Ensure full charge; consider replacing battery if it's old. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact your Icom dealer or authorized service center for assistance.
