Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your coffeemaker.
Daily Cleaning
- Unplug the coffeemaker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Remove the filter basket and glass carafe. Wash them in warm, soapy water or in the top rack of a dishwasher. Rinse thoroughly.
- Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffeemaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Wipe the "Keep Hot" carafe plate with a damp cloth.
- The removable water reservoir can be washed with warm, soapy water and rinsed.
Decalcification (Mineral Deposit Removal)
Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffeemaker over time, affecting performance. Decalcify your coffeemaker every 80 brews or monthly, depending on water hardness.
- Pour 1 cup of white vinegar into the water reservoir, then fill the rest with cold water up to the 12-cup mark.
- Place an empty paper filter in the filter basket and close the lid.
- Place the empty carafe on the carafe plate.
- Brew the vinegar solution through the coffeemaker as if making coffee.
- After half the solution has brewed, turn off the coffeemaker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes.
- Turn the coffeemaker back on and brew the remaining solution.
- Discard the vinegar solution and rinse the carafe.
- Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water and brew through the coffeemaker to rinse. Repeat this rinsing cycle 2-3 times to remove any vinegar taste.
