Setup
1. Placement
Place the soundbar centrally below your television. Ensure there are no obstructions in front of the soundbar's speakers. The wireless subwoofer can be placed anywhere in the room, ideally within 30 feet (10 meters) of the soundbar, for optimal bass distribution.
2. Connecting the Subwoofer
The subwoofer connects wirelessly to the soundbar. Plug both the soundbar and the subwoofer into power outlets. The subwoofer should automatically pair with the soundbar. If pairing fails, refer to the troubleshooting section.
3. Audio Connections
Connect the soundbar to your television or other audio sources using one of the following methods:
- HDMI ARC (Recommended): Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI ARC port on your TV to the HDMI OUT (ARC) port on the soundbar. This allows audio to be sent from the TV to the soundbar and enables TV remote control of the soundbar volume.
- Optical Cable: Connect an optical cable from your TV's optical digital audio output to the soundbar's OPTICAL IN port.
- Bluetooth: For wireless audio from compatible devices, refer to the 'Operating' section for Bluetooth pairing instructions.
- USB: Connect a USB device to the USB 2.0 port for media playback.
4. Wall Mounting
The soundbar is wall-mountable. Use the provided wall mount kit and follow the specific instructions included with the kit for secure installation. Ensure the wall can support the weight of the soundbar.
Operating
1. Power On/Off
Press the Power button on the soundbar or the remote control to turn the unit on or off. If connected via HDMI ARC, the soundbar may power on/off automatically with your TV.
2. Input Selection
Press the Source button on the soundbar or remote control to cycle through available input sources (e.g., HDMI, Optical, Bluetooth, USB, TV SoundConnect).
3. Volume Control
Adjust the master volume using the Volume Up/Down buttons on the soundbar or remote control. Separate controls for Treble, Bass, and Subwoofer levels are available via the remote control to fine-tune your audio experience.
4. Sound Modes
The soundbar offers various sound modes to optimize audio for different content types. Use the Sound Mode button on the remote to select from options such as Standard, Music, Movie, and Clear Voice (if available).
5. Bluetooth Pairing
- Set the soundbar to Bluetooth input mode.
- On your mobile device (smartphone, tablet), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
- Select "[Samsung] HW-J650" from the list.
- Once paired, audio from your device will play through the soundbar.
Note: Some devices may experience pairing difficulties. Ensure the soundbar is in pairing mode and no other devices are actively connected.
6. TV SoundConnect
If your Samsung TV supports TV SoundConnect, you can wirelessly connect the soundbar to your TV. Refer to your TV's manual for specific instructions on enabling this feature. Not all Samsung TV models support TV SoundConnect.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the soundbar and subwoofer, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners, waxes, or solvents, as these can damage the finish. Ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.
Storage
If storing the unit for an extended period, unplug it from the power outlet and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your soundbar, consult the following common solutions:
- No Power: Ensure both the soundbar and subwoofer are securely plugged into working power outlets. Check the power indicator lights.
- No Sound:
- Verify the correct input source is selected on the soundbar.
- Check all audio cables (HDMI, Optical) are securely connected.
- Ensure the TV's audio output is set to external speakers or the correct digital output format.
- Increase the volume on both the soundbar and the connected device.
- Subwoofer Not Connecting:
- Ensure the subwoofer is powered on.
- If the LINK LED on the subwoofer is blinking, it is searching for the soundbar. If it's solid blue, it's connected.
- To manually pair, press the ID SET button on the back of the subwoofer with a pen tip. Then, with the soundbar off, press and hold the Mute button on the remote for 5-6 seconds until 'ID SET' appears on the soundbar display. Power on the soundbar.
- Bluetooth Pairing Issues:
- Ensure the soundbar is in Bluetooth mode.
- Delete "[Samsung] HW-J650" from your device's Bluetooth list and attempt to pair again.
- Move your device closer to the soundbar (within 10 meters).
- TV SoundConnect Not Working: Confirm your specific Samsung TV model supports TV SoundConnect. This feature is not universally compatible across all Samsung TVs.
- Unit Not Turning On (after extended use): If the unit fails to power on, and basic troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, contact Samsung customer support for assistance.
