EverLast CTX7L-BS 12-Volt AGM Battery User Manual

Model: CTX7L-BS

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use, installation, and maintenance of your EverLast CTX7L-BS 12-Volt AGM Fresh Pack battery. The CTX7L-BS is a high-performance, maintenance-free battery designed for various powersport applications, including motorcycles, scooters, ATVs, UTVs, personal watercraft, and snowmobiles. It delivers 95 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) and 6 Ampere-hours (AH) of performance.

EverLast AGM batteries are engineered for exceptional starting power, extended life, and durability. They are spill-proof and designed to hold a charge significantly longer than conventional batteries, making them ideal for demanding conditions and less frequent charging during off-season storage.

Important Safety Information: Always read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before handling, installing, or operating the battery. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or property damage.

2. Setup and Installation

2.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the battery and the accompanying acid pack from the packaging. Inspect both items for any signs of damage. Do not proceed with installation if any damage is observed. Contact your retailer for assistance.

2.2 Filling the Battery with Electrolyte (Acid)

The EverLast CTX7L-BS is a "Fresh Pack" battery, meaning the electrolyte (acid) is supplied separately and must be added before first use. This ensures maximum shelf life and performance.

  1. Safety First: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, acid-resistant gloves, and protective clothing. Ensure you are in a well-ventilated area.
  2. Place the battery on a level, stable surface.
  3. Remove the sealing strip from the top of the battery. Do not discard this strip.
  4. Take the acid pack and remove the cap strip. Do not pierce or cut the individual acid containers.
  5. Align the acid pack with the battery's fill holes. Push the acid pack firmly down until the sealed sections of the acid pack are punctured by the battery's fill ports.
  6. Allow the acid to drain completely into the battery. This may take up to 20 minutes. Do not tilt or remove the acid pack until all acid has drained.
  7. Once all acid has drained, carefully remove the empty acid pack.
  8. Immediately and firmly press the sealing strip (removed in step 3) back onto the battery's fill holes. Ensure it is securely seated to create a permanent seal. Never remove this sealing strip again.

2.3 Initial Charging

After filling, the battery requires an initial charge to reach its full capacity and ensure optimal performance. This is crucial even if the battery appears to have some charge.

  1. Connect the battery to a suitable 12-volt battery charger designed for AGM batteries.
  2. Charge the battery at a low amperage (typically 0.6 to 1.0 amps) for 3 to 5 hours, or until the charger indicates a full charge. Refer to your charger's instructions for specific settings.
  3. Do not overcharge the battery, as this can reduce its lifespan.

2.4 Battery Installation in Vehicle

  1. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off and remove the key.
  2. Locate the battery compartment.
  3. If replacing an old battery, disconnect the negative (-) terminal first, then the positive (+) terminal. Remove the old battery.
  4. Clean the battery tray and terminal cables to ensure good contact.
  5. Place the EverLast CTX7L-BS battery securely in the compartment.
  6. Connect the positive (+) terminal cable first, then the negative (-) terminal cable. Ensure connections are tight but do not overtighten.
  7. Secure the battery with any retaining straps or clamps in the vehicle.

3. Operating Your Battery

Your EverLast CTX7L-BS AGM battery is designed to provide reliable starting power for a wide range of powersport vehicles. Its sealed, spill-proof design and vibration resistance make it suitable for demanding applications.

  • Ensure the battery is fully charged before initial use and after periods of inactivity.
  • Avoid deep discharges. Repeatedly draining the battery completely can shorten its lifespan.
  • For optimal performance, especially in cold weather, ensure the battery is maintained at a good state of charge.

4. Maintenance

The EverLast CTX7L-BS is a maintenance-free AGM battery, meaning it does not require checking or refilling of electrolyte. However, proper care will extend its service life.

4.1 Regular Checks

  • Terminal Connections: Periodically check that the battery terminals are clean, free of corrosion, and securely tightened. Loose or corroded connections can lead to poor performance and charging issues.
  • Battery Case: Keep the battery case clean and dry. Wipe away any dirt or grime with a damp cloth.
  • Voltage Check: If possible, periodically check the battery's open-circuit voltage with a voltmeter. A fully charged 12-volt AGM battery should read approximately 12.8 volts or higher.

4.2 Off-Season Storage

For vehicles stored for extended periods (e.g., during winter), proper battery maintenance is essential to prevent discharge and damage.

  • Fully charge the battery before storing the vehicle.
  • Disconnect the battery from the vehicle to prevent parasitic drains.
  • Store the battery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Use a smart battery maintainer (trickle charger) designed for AGM batteries to keep the battery at an optimal charge level during storage. Avoid using standard automotive chargers that may overcharge.
  • Recharge the battery every 30-60 days if a maintainer is not used.
