Model: 39-0003-02-R

1. Overview

This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Jacuzzi 39-0003-02-R DV7 Replacement Valve. This valve is designed to upgrade older DVK-5 valves to the DVK-7 standard, offering enhanced functionality for your pool or spa filtration system.

The Jacuzzi 39-0003-02-R DV7 is a multiport valve featuring a top mount design and a 1-1/2 inch plumbing connection size. It is compatible with Jacuzzi/Carvin DVK5 and DVK7 models.

2. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your replacement valve. It is recommended that installation be performed by a qualified professional.

2.1 Pre-Installation Checks

  • Ensure all power to the pump and filter system is disconnected before beginning installation.
  • Verify that the replacement valve matches the specifications of your existing system, particularly the 1-1/2 inch plumbing connection size.
  • Inspect the valve for any visible damage or missing components.
  • Note: A rubber seal at the base of the valve is typically required for proper sealing and may not be included with the replacement valve. Ensure you have the necessary seal before proceeding.

2.2 Installation Steps

  1. Carefully remove the old valve from your filter system, ensuring all connections are detached.
  2. Clean the mounting surface on the filter tank to ensure a proper seal.
  3. Place the rubber seal (if separate) onto the filter tank opening.
  4. Position the new Jacuzzi DV7 valve onto the filter tank, aligning the ports correctly.
  5. Secure the valve to the filter tank using the appropriate clamps or bolts. Tighten fittings hand-tight plus approximately 1/2 turn. Do not overtighten.
  6. Connect all plumbing lines to the corresponding ports on the valve (e.g., pump, return, waste).
  7. Install the pressure gauge and sight glass into their designated ports.
  8. Once all connections are secure, restore power to the pump and check for leaks.

3. Operating the Valve

The Jacuzzi DV7 valve features multiple positions to control the flow of water through your filtration system. Always turn off the pump before changing valve positions to prevent damage to the valve or system.

3.1 Valve Positions

  • FILTER: Normal filtering position. Water flows through the filter media and returns to the pool/spa.
  • BACKWASH: Used for cleaning the filter media. Water flows in reverse through the filter and out the waste port.
  • RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining debris from the filter and settle the filter media. Water flows through the filter and out the waste port.
  • WASTE: Bypasses the filter, sending water directly out the waste port. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste or lowering the pool/spa water level.
  • RECIRCULATE: Bypasses the filter, circulating water directly back to the pool/spa. Useful for chemical distribution without filtering.
  • WINTERIZE: Position for draining the filter and preparing the system for winter storage.
  • CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pool/spa. Use only when the pump is off.

3.2 Pressure Gauge

The integrated pressure gauge indicates the pressure within your filter system. Monitor this gauge regularly. An increase in pressure typically indicates that the filter needs backwashing or cleaning.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Jacuzzi DV7 replacement valve.

  • Backwashing: Perform backwashing when the pressure gauge reading is 8-10 PSI above the clean filter pressure. Follow the operating instructions for backwash and rinse cycles.
  • Seal Inspection: Periodically inspect all seals and O-rings for wear, cracks, or damage. Replace them as needed to prevent leaks.
  • Lubrication: If the valve handle becomes stiff, apply a silicone-based lubricant (petroleum-free) to the internal O-rings and moving parts.
  • Winterization: Follow the 'WINTERIZE' position instructions and your pool/spa system's winterization guidelines to protect the valve from freezing temperatures.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Jacuzzi DV7 valve, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Leaks from Valve Connections:
Ensure all plumbing connections are securely tightened. Check the O-rings and gaskets for proper seating and condition. Replace any worn or damaged seals. Avoid overtightening, which can also cause damage.
  • Water Leaking from Waste Port in Filter Mode:
This often indicates a damaged spider gasket inside the valve. The spider gasket directs water flow to the correct port. If damaged, it may allow water to bypass the filter and exit through the waste port. Replacement of the spider gasket is typically required.
  • Difficulty Changing Valve Positions:
Ensure the pump is turned off before attempting to change valve positions. If the handle is still stiff, the internal O-rings may require lubrication or replacement.
  • Low Flow or Poor Filtration:
Check the pressure gauge; if it's high, backwash the filter. Ensure the valve is set to the 'FILTER' position. Inspect the pump basket and skimmer baskets for debris.
