A C-Wire (common wire) is required for proper operation of this thermostat. Ensure your HVAC system has a C-wire available or consult a professional for installation if unsure.

Installation Steps (General Guide):

  1. Power Off: Before beginning, turn off power to your heating and cooling system at the main breaker or furnace switch.
  2. Remove Old Thermostat: Carefully remove your old thermostat from the wall. Take a picture of the existing wiring connections for reference.
  3. Label Wires: Use the provided wiring labels (refer to Figure 4) to clearly mark each wire as you disconnect it from your old thermostat.

  • Change system and fan modes.
  • View current temperature and system status.
  • Modify programming schedules.
  • Integrate with Amazon Alexa for voice control.

Ensure your Wi-Fi network is broadcasting on the 2.4 GHz frequency, as this thermostat may not connect to 5 GHz networks.

6. Maintenance

The Robertshaw RS10420T thermostat requires minimal maintenance to ensure optimal performance.

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the touchscreen and exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: While the thermostat is primarily powered by the C-wire, it uses 2 AAA batteries (included) for backup. Replace these batteries annually or when a low battery indicator appears on the display.
  • Air Filter Reminder: The thermostat may include a filter change reminder feature. Follow your HVAC system's recommendations for air filter replacement to maintain system efficiency and air quality.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Robertshaw RS10420T thermostat, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • No Power/Blank Display:
    • Ensure power to your HVAC system is on at the breaker.
    • Verify the C-wire is correctly connected and providing 24 Volts.
    • Check if the AAA backup batteries are installed correctly and have sufficient charge.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues:
    • Ensure your Wi-Fi router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz signal. This thermostat is not compatible with 5 GHz networks.
    • Move the thermostat closer to your Wi-Fi router if possible, or consider a Wi-Fi extender.
    • Restart your Wi-Fi router and the thermostat (by temporarily removing and reinserting batteries or cycling power at the breaker).
    • If the app frequently shows the thermostat offline, consider assigning a static IP address to the thermostat on your router.
  • Incorrect Temperature Reading:
    • The thermostat has an adjustable temperature calibration feature. Access this setting through the menu to fine-tune the temperature reading if it consistently differs from other thermometers.
    • Ensure the thermostat is not exposed to direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources that could affect its temperature sensor.
  • Thermostat Reverts to Program Schedule After Power Loss:
    • This is a known characteristic for some units. After a power outage, the thermostat may default back to its programmed schedule. Manually adjust the settings if you prefer to override the schedule, or ensure your schedule is set to your desired default.
  • Touchscreen Unresponsive:
    • Ensure the screen is clean and free of debris.
    • Try gently pressing the screen multiple times to activate the backlight or register input.
    • Cycle power to the thermostat by turning off the HVAC system at the breaker for a few minutes, then restoring power.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Robertshaw customer support.
