3.1 Front Panel Overview

Figure 3.1: Front view of the Midas DL32, showing 32 XLR input connectors (IN 1-32) with associated phantom power buttons and signal indicators, and 16 XLR output connectors (OUT 1-16). A 'MUTE ALL' button and AES50 SYNC indicators are also visible on the right side.
- Inputs (IN 1-32): XLR connectors for microphone and line-level signals. Each input has a corresponding PUSH button for 48V phantom power activation and an LED indicator for signal presence/clipping.
- Outputs (OUT 1-16): XLR connectors for balanced line-level outputs.
- MUTE ALL: Button to mute all outputs simultaneously.
- AES50 SYNC Indicators: LEDs to show the synchronization status of the AES50 A and B ports.
3.2 Rear Panel Overview

Figure 3.2: Rear view of the Midas DL32, displaying the AC power input, USB port, dual AES50 A and B ports, ULTRANET port, ADAT OUT ports, AES/EBU output, and MIDI In/Out connectors. The Midas logo and model number are also visible.
- AC/POWER: Standard IEC power inlet for connecting to mains electricity.
- USB: USB Type B port for firmware updates and control.
- AES50 A & B: Dual EtherCON ports for connecting to Midas digital consoles or other AES50-compatible devices. These ports carry 48 channels of bidirectional audio and control data.
- ULTRANET: EtherCON port for connecting to the Behringer P16 personal monitoring system or other ULTRANET-compatible devices.
- ADAT OUT (13-16, 17-24, 25-32): Optical ADAT outputs for digital audio routing.
- AES/EBU (OUT 13-14, OUT 15-16): XLR outputs for AES/EBU digital audio.
- MIDI IN/OUT: Standard 5-pin DIN connectors for MIDI control.
3.3 Power Connection
Connect the supplied IEC power cable to the AC/POWER inlet on the rear panel and then to a suitable mains power outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting.
3.4 Connecting to a Digital Console (AES50)
Use a shielded CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable (maximum 100m/330ft) to connect one of the DL32's AES50 ports (A or B) to an AES50 port on your Midas digital console (e.g., M32, PRO series). The DL32 will automatically synchronize with the console. The AES50 SYNC LEDs on the front panel will indicate successful synchronization.
3.5 Audio Connections
- Inputs: Connect microphones or line-level sources to the XLR IN 1-32 connectors on the front panel. Activate 48V phantom power for condenser microphones using the individual PUSH buttons.
- Outputs: Connect your mixing console's outputs, power amplifiers, or other audio destinations to the XLR OUT 1-16 connectors.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Powering On/Off
- Ensure all connections are secure.
- Flip the power switch on the rear panel to the ON position.
- To power off, flip the power switch to the OFF position. It is recommended to power down your digital console first, then the DL32.
4.2 Input Signal Monitoring
Each input channel has an LED indicator. A green LED indicates signal presence, while a red LED indicates clipping. Adjust input gain on your connected digital console to prevent clipping and ensure optimal signal levels.
4.3 Phantom Power
Press the PUSH button above each input XLR connector to activate 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. The button will illuminate when phantom power is active. Ensure dynamic microphones or line-level sources do not have phantom power applied unless specifically designed to handle it.
4.4 MUTE ALL Function
The MUTE ALL button on the front panel allows for quick muting of all 16 outputs. This can be useful during setup or in emergency situations. Press the button once to mute, and again to unmute.
4.5 Firmware Updates
Periodically check the Midas website for firmware updates. Updates can be performed via the USB port on the rear panel. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware download carefully.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the DL32. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation around the unit. Do not block ventilation openings.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the DL32 in a dry, dust-free environment.
- Cable Management: Regularly inspect all cables for wear and tear. Replace damaged cables immediately.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Power cable disconnected; Power outlet faulty; Unit fuse blown. | Check power cable connection; Try a different outlet; Contact service for fuse replacement. |
| No audio input | Incorrect cable connection; Phantom power not activated (for condenser mics); Input gain too low on console. | Verify XLR cable connections; Activate 48V phantom power; Increase input gain on the connected console. |
| No audio output | MUTE ALL engaged; Output cables disconnected; Console routing error. | Disengage MUTE ALL; Check output XLR cable connections; Verify routing on your digital console. |
| AES50 SYNC LED not lit | AES50 cable faulty or disconnected; Console not powered on or not sending clock. | Check AES50 cable; Ensure console is powered on and configured correctly. |
