4. Setup

4.1. Charging the Battery

  1. Insert the EN-EL12 rechargeable Li-ion battery into the EH-71P AC Adapter/Charger.
  2. Connect the charger to a power outlet using the UC-E21 USB Cable.
  3. The charging indicator will illuminate during charging and turn off when complete. A full charge typically takes approximately 2 hours.

4.2. Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

  1. Open the battery/memory card cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the fully charged EN-EL12 battery with the correct orientation until it clicks into place.
  3. Insert an SD memory card into the card slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is facing the correct direction.
  4. Close the battery/memory card cover securely.

4.3. Initial Settings

Upon first power-on, the camera will prompt you to set the date, time, and time zone. Follow the on-screen instructions using the camera's control buttons.

5. Operating the Camera

5.1. Basic Photography

  1. Power On: Press the power button to turn on the camera.
  2. Select Mode: Rotate the mode dial to select your desired shooting mode (e.g., Auto, Scene, Program Auto).
  3. Frame Your Shot: Use the vari-angle LCD monitor to compose your image.
  4. Focus: Press the shutter-release button halfway down to focus. The focus indicator will light up when focus is achieved.
  5. Shoot: Press the shutter-release button fully to take the picture.

5.2. Using the Zoom

The camera features a 30x optical zoom lens, extendable to 60x with Dynamic Fine Zoom. Use the zoom lever around the shutter-release button to adjust the focal length. Push it towards 'W' for wide-angle and 'T' for telephoto.

5.3. Flash Modes

The built-in flash has several modes: Auto, On, and Off. Access flash settings through the camera menu to select the appropriate mode for your lighting conditions.

5.4. Wi-Fi and NFC Connectivity

The COOLPIX S9900 supports Wi-Fi and NFC for instant sharing and remote control. Download the Nikon "Wireless Mobile Utility" app to your compatible smartphone or tablet (Android devices with NFC version 4.0 or later, or any Wi-Fi enabled device). Follow the app's instructions to connect your camera for image transfer or remote shooting.

To record videos, rotate the mode dial to the movie mode icon. Press the movie-record button to start and stop recording. The camera records in FHD 1080p resolution in MOV format.
