Setup

1. Installing the Battery Pack

Insert the provided Battery Pack LP-E17 into the battery compartment located at the bottom of the camera. Ensure it clicks into place. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Inserting a Memory Card

Open the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera. Insert an SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-I compatible) card with the label facing the back of the camera until it clicks. Close the card slot cover.

3. Attaching a Lens

Align the red or white index mark on the lens with the corresponding index mark on the camera body. Turn the lens clockwise until it locks into place with a click. (Note: This product is body-only; lens sold separately.)

4. Initial Settings

Turn the camera on using the power switch. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the date, time, and language. Refer to the detailed operating section for further customization.

Operating the Camera

1. Basic Photography Modes

The mode dial on the top of the camera allows you to select various shooting modes. For beginners, the Scene Intelligent Auto mode (green square icon) automatically optimizes settings for most situations. For more control, explore Program AE (P), Shutter-priority AE (Tv), Aperture-priority AE (Av), and Manual (M) modes.

2. Advanced Settings

• Shutter Speed: Controls the duration the sensor is exposed to light. Faster speeds freeze action, slower speeds create motion blur.
• ISO Sensitivity: Determines the camera's sensitivity to light. Higher ISO values are useful in low light but can introduce noise.
• Aperture: Controls the amount of light entering the lens and the depth of field. A wider aperture (smaller f-number) creates a shallow depth of field.

3. Video Recording

Troubleshooting

• Camera does not power on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted.
• Images are blurry: Check focus settings, shutter speed (ensure it's fast enough for moving subjects), and ensure image stabilization is active if available.
• Memory card error: Reinsert the card, try a different card, or format the card (note: formatting deletes all data).
• Wi-Fi connection issues: Ensure the camera and smart device are within range and the Canon Camera Connect app is updated.
