Setup
1. Power Connection
Connect the supplied AC power cord to the AC IN jack on the unit and then to a wall outlet. Alternatively, for portable use, insert 6 R14 (size C) batteries (not supplied) into the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit, ensuring correct polarity.
2. Antenna Setup
For FM reception, extend the telescopic antenna fully and adjust its direction for optimal signal. For AM reception, the unit has a built-in ferrite bar antenna. Rotate the unit itself for best AM reception.
Operating Instructions
1. Basic Operation
- Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.
- Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly to select the desired source (CD, FM, AM, AUX).
- Adjust the volume using the VOLUME +/- buttons.
2. CD Playback
- Open the CD compartment lid and place a CD with the label side up. Close the lid securely.
- Press the FUNCTION button to select "CD".
- Press the PLAY/PAUSE (►/−−) button to start playback.
- To pause, press PLAY/PAUSE (►/−−) again. Press it once more to resume.
- To stop playback, press the STOP (■) button.
- To skip tracks, press the FORWARD (►►) or BACK (◄◄) buttons.
- Program Play: You can program up to 25 tracks. Refer to the detailed instructions in the full user manual for programming steps.
3. Radio Operation (FM/AM/Wide FM)
- Press the FUNCTION button to select "FM" or "AM".
- Press the TUNING +/- buttons to manually tune to a station.
- To automatically scan for the next available station, press and hold the TUNING +/- buttons until the frequency starts changing.
- Presetting Favorite Stations:
- Tune to the desired station.
- Press and hold one of the FAVORITE RADIO STATION (1, 2, or 3) buttons until "PRESET" appears on the display. The station is now saved.
- To recall a preset station, simply press the corresponding FAVORITE RADIO STATION button.
4. AUX Input
- Connect an external audio device (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) to the AUDIO IN jack on the unit using a stereo mini cable (not supplied).
- Press the FUNCTION button to select "AUX".
- Start playback on your connected external device. The audio will be output through the ZS-S40 speakers.
- Adjust the volume using the unit's VOLUME +/- buttons and/or the volume control on your external device.
5. Sleep Timer
- While the unit is on, press the SLEEP button repeatedly to cycle through the available sleep timer settings: 90 min → 60 min → 30 min → 15 min → OFF.
- The unit will automatically turn off after the selected time has elapsed.
Maintenance
- Cleaning the Unit: Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn stains, use a cloth lightly dampened with a mild detergent solution, then wipe dry. Do not use abrasive pads, scouring powder, or solvents such as alcohol or benzene.
- Cleaning the CD Lens: Use a commercially available CD lens cleaner.
- Battery Replacement: If using batteries, replace all batteries with new ones when the power indicator dims or the unit stops functioning correctly. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
