6. Setup

6.1 Attaching the Reflector

  1. Align the three bayonet mounts on the 7-inch reflector with the corresponding slots on the front of the Indra500 unit.
  2. Insert the reflector and twist clockwise until it locks securely into place.
  3. To remove, press the release button (if present) and twist counter-clockwise.

6.2 Mounting on a Light Stand

  1. Loosen the adjustment knob on the light stand mount of the Indra500.
  2. Place the unit onto a standard light stand stud.
  3. Tighten the adjustment knob to secure the unit.
  4. Adjust the tilt angle of the light as needed and tighten the tilt locking knob.

6.3 Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Ensure the Indra500 is powered off.
  2. Connect the Li-ion polymer battery pack to the power input port on the side of the Indra500. Secure the connection by twisting the locking ring.
  3. To charge the battery, connect the battery charger to the battery pack and plug the charger into a suitable power outlet. The charging indicator on the charger will show the charging status.
  4. A full charge typically takes approximately 5 hours and provides around 400 full-power flashes.

6.4 Connecting AC Power (Optional)

If using the optional AC adapter for continuous power:

  1. Ensure the Indra500 is powered off.
  2. Connect the optional AC adapter to the power input port on the side of the Indra500. Secure the connection.
  3. Plug the AC adapter into a suitable wall outlet (110-220 VAC).

7. Operation

7.1 Powering On/Off

  • Press and hold the power button (typically marked with a circle and a vertical line) on the control panel to turn the unit on or off.
  • The LCD screen will illuminate upon power-on.

7.2 Mode Selection

The Indra500 supports TTL, Manual (M), and Stroboscopic (Multi) modes. Use the "Mode" button on the control panel to cycle through these options.

  • TTL Mode: The flash output is automatically adjusted based on the camera's metering system. Power can be adjusted remotely +/- 3 EV using an optional Odin transmitter.
  • Manual Mode (M): Flash output is set manually from 1/128 to full power. Use the rotary dial to adjust the power level.
  • Stroboscopic Mode (Multi): The flash fires multiple times during a single exposure. Consult the full user manual for detailed settings for frequency and number of flashes.

7.3 Power Adjustment

In Manual mode, rotate the main dial on the control panel to increase or decrease the flash power. The power level will be displayed on the LCD screen.

7.4 Using Built-in Receivers (Odin/Strato II)

The Indra500 has built-in receivers for Phottix Odin (Nikon/Canon) and Strato II triggers. To use remote control:

  1. Ensure your Phottix Odin or Strato II transmitter is set to the same channel and group as the Indra500.
  2. Refer to your transmitter's manual for specific instructions on pairing and remote control functions.
  3. The Indra500 supports high-speed sync (HSS) up to 1/8000s when used with compatible Odin TTL transmitters.

7.5 Modeling Light

Press the "MODEL" button on the control panel to turn the LED modeling light on or off. The modeling light helps visualize the lighting effect before firing the flash.

8. Maintenance

8.1 Cleaning

  • Ensure the unit is powered off and disconnected from all power sources before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the unit.
  • For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth with a mild detergent can be used, followed by a dry cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong chemicals.
