1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and programming of your Lutron Maestro 0-10-Volt Dimmer Sensor Switch (Model MS-Z101-WH). This device combines a dimmer with advanced motion sensing technology to automatically control lighting in a space. It is designed for use with 0-10V LED drivers and fluorescent ballasts.

4. Installation and Wiring

Before beginning installation, ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker.

4.1 Wiring Configurations

The MS-Z101-WH supports single-pole and 3-way/multi-location wiring. A neutral wire connection is optional.

  • Single-Pole: Controls lights from one location.
  • 3-Way/Multi-Location: Controls lights from two or more locations. This requires either an existing mechanical 3-way switch or Lutron Maestro companion switches (MA-AS/MSC-AS), sold separately. Up to 9 companion switches can be used for control from up to 10 locations.

4.2 General Installation Steps

  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Remove the existing wall plate and switch.
  3. Identify the wiring in the wall box.
  4. Connect the wires from the MS-Z101-WH to the house wiring according to the provided wiring diagram (refer to the diagram included with your product packaging for specific details).
  5. Secure the dimmer sensor switch into the wall box.
  6. Attach the wall plate (sold separately).
  7. Restore power at the circuit breaker.

5. Operating Instructions

The Maestro dimmer sensor switch offers both automatic and manual control of your lighting.

5.1 Automatic Operation (Occupancy/Vacancy Sensing)

  • Occupancy Mode: The sensor automatically turns lights ON when you enter the room and OFF when you leave. This is the default mode.
  • Vacancy Mode: Lights must be manually turned ON, but will automatically turn OFF when the room is vacated. This mode helps meet Title 24 requirements.

The sensor's advanced XCT technology detects both major and fine motion, ensuring lights remain on while the room is occupied.

5.2 Manual Control

  • Tap Switch: Press the large paddle at the top to manually turn lights ON or OFF.
  • Rocker Switch: Use the small rocker switch on the side to manually adjust the light level up or down.
  • Preset Level: The dimmer can be programmed to turn lights on to a specific preset brightness level automatically.

  • Ambient Light Detection: The sensor can detect existing daylight and keep lights off if the room is already sufficiently bright, further saving energy.

7. Maintenance
