3. Getting Started: Setup

3.1. Unboxing and Initial Check

Upon opening the package, ensure all components are present. The standard package includes the Fujifilm XQ2 camera body and a battery. Check for any visible damage before proceeding.

3.2. Charging the Battery

  1. Insert the supplied battery into the battery charger.
  2. Connect the charger to a power outlet. The charging indicator will illuminate.
  3. Charging is complete when the indicator light turns off. Disconnect the charger from the outlet and remove the battery.

3.3. Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

  1. Open the battery/memory card cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the charged battery with the correct orientation until it clicks into place.
  3. Insert an SDXC memory card (sold separately) into the card slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is facing the correct way.
  4. Close the battery/memory card cover securely.

3.4. Initial Power On and Basic Settings

  1. Press the ON/OFF button to power on the camera.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the date, time, and language.
  3. Format the memory card before first use to ensure optimal performance. Navigate to the SETUP menu and select FORMAT.

4. Operating the Camera

4.1. Basic Shooting

  • Power On: Press the ON/OFF button.
  • Select Mode: Use the mode dial to choose your desired shooting mode (e.g., AUTO, P, S, A, M, Scene Position).
  • Zoom: Rotate the control ring around the lens to adjust the optical zoom.
  • Focus: Half-press the shutter button to focus. The camera's single-point autofocus is designed for quick and accurate focusing.
  • Capture: Fully press the shutter button to take a picture.

4.2. Advanced Features

  • Film Simulation: Access various film simulation modes (e.g., PROVIA, VELVIA, ASTIA, CLASSIC CHROME) via the menu to apply distinct color and tonal characteristics to your images.
  • Control Ring: The control ring around the lens can be customized to adjust various settings such as aperture, ISO, or zoom, providing quick access to frequently used functions.
  • Built-in Flash: To activate the pop-up flash, slide the flash release lever. The flash balances well with ambient light in various conditions.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Use the built-in Wi-Fi to transfer images wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet via the Fujifilm Camera Remote app. This also enables remote control of the camera.

4.3. Video Recording

The XQ2 supports Full HD 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second. To start recording, select the movie mode on the mode dial and press the shutter button. Ensure sufficient memory card space and battery life.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Camera: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera body. For the lens, use a lens brush or blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a microfiber lens cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
