  • These strips are for external use only and are not intended for internal consumption.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Handle samples with appropriate safety precautions, especially if they are hazardous.
  • Dispose of used strips according to local regulations for chemical waste.

3. Package Contents

  • 1 box of Macherey-Nagel pH-Fix 0-14 Indicator Strips (100 strips)

4. Setup

No specific setup is required for these pH indicator strips. Ensure the strips are stored in their original packaging in a cool, dry place until ready for use to maintain their integrity and accuracy.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to accurately measure the pH of a liquid sample:

  1. Prepare Sample: Ensure the liquid sample to be tested is at room temperature and well-mixed.
  2. Remove Strip: Carefully remove one pH indicator strip from the box, avoiding touching the indicator pad.
  3. Dip Strip: Immerse the indicator pad of the strip completely into the liquid sample for approximately 1 second.
  4. Remove Excess: Remove the strip from the sample and shake off any excess liquid.
  5. Wait: Wait for the color to stabilize, typically within 10-30 seconds. Do not wait too long as the color may fade or change further.
  6. Compare Color: Immediately compare the color of the indicator pad with the color scale provided on the pH-Fix box.

6. Reading Results

To determine the pH value:

  • Match the color of the wetted indicator pad to the closest color block on the reference scale printed on the strip box.
  • The number corresponding to the matched color block represents the pH value of your sample.
  • The scale ranges from pH 0 (highly acidic) to pH 14 (highly alkaline).
  • For best accuracy, perform the comparison under good lighting conditions.

7. Storage and Maintenance

  • Store the pH indicator strips in their original, tightly closed container.
  • Keep in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not store near strong acids or bases, as fumes can affect the indicator pads.
  • Proper storage ensures the longevity and accuracy of the strips.
  • No specific maintenance is required for the strips themselves.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Color Change or Faint Color: Ensure the strip was fully immersed in the sample. The sample might be too dilute or the strip may be expired or damaged from improper storage. Try a fresh strip.
  • Inaccurate Reading: Ensure the comparison to the color chart is done immediately after the color stabilizes. Prolonged exposure to air or light after wetting can affect the color. Ensure the sample is not contaminated.
  • Strips Discolored in Box: This indicates improper storage, such as exposure to moisture, fumes, or extreme temperatures. Discard discolored strips and use a new box stored correctly.
