Setup

1. Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack the VP-1608 and inspect for any signs of damage during transit. Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage.

2. Rack Mounting (Optional)

The VP-1608 is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Secure the unit using appropriate rack screws, ensuring adequate ventilation around the device.

3. Connecting Video Signals

Connect your RGBHV video sources to the INPUTS BNC connectors on the rear panel. Each input requires five BNC cables (R, G, B, H, V). Connect your display devices or other video equipment to the OUTPUTS BNC connectors.

4. Connecting Audio Signals

Connect your balanced stereo audio sources to the detachable terminal blocks labeled AUDIO INPUTS. Similarly, connect your audio receivers or amplifiers to the AUDIO OUTPUTS terminal blocks.

5. Connecting Control (Optional)

For external control, connect a control system via the RS-232 or RS-485 ports on the rear panel. Refer to the detailed control protocol documentation for specific commands and baud rates.

6. Power Connection

Connect the supplied power cord to the AC inlet on the rear panel and then to a grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the power switch on the front panel is in the OFF position before connecting power.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On/Off

Press the POWER switch on the front panel to turn the unit ON or OFF. The power indicator will illuminate when the unit is on.

2. Basic Switching Operation

The VP-1608 uses a matrix switching method where you select an output first, then an input.

  1. Select Output: Press one of the OUTPUT buttons (1-8) to select the desired output channel. The corresponding output LED will light up.
  2. Select Input: Press one of the INPUT buttons (1-16) to select the desired input source for the chosen output. The corresponding input LED will light up.
  3. Execute Switch: Press the TAKE button to execute the switch. The selected input will now be routed to the selected output.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

To clean the unit, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner can be used. Ensure the unit is powered off and disconnected from the power source before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners directly on the unit.

2. Ventilation

Ensure that the ventilation openings on the unit are not blocked. Proper airflow is essential to prevent overheating and ensure long-term reliability.

3. Firmware Updates (If Applicable)

Periodically check the Kramer Electronics website for any available firmware updates for the VP-1608. Follow the instructions provided with the update package carefully.
