Safety Precautions

Installation Steps
- Prepare the Serger: Turn off and unplug the serger. Open the looper cover and/or side cover to access the knife mechanism.
- Remove the Old Knife: Locate the screw(s) holding the upper knife in place. Using the appropriate screwdriver (usually provided with your serger), carefully loosen and remove the screw(s). Gently pull out the old upper knife.
- Insert the New Knife: Position the new Janome Upper Knife into the designated slot. Ensure it is seated correctly and aligned with the lower knife.
- Secure the Knife: Insert and tighten the screw(s) to firmly secure the new upper knife. Do not overtighten.
- Test Functionality: Close all covers. Plug in the serger and turn it on. Manually turn the handwheel a few times to ensure the upper and lower knives move smoothly and do not interfere with other parts. Perform a test stitch on a scrap piece of fabric to verify proper cutting.

- Ensure the knife is sharp and free from nicks or damage.

- Replacement: The upper knife is a consumable part and will eventually become dull with use. Replace the knife when you notice a decrease in cutting efficiency, even after cleaning. The frequency of replacement depends on usage and fabric types.

Fabric Not Cutting Cleanly or Fraying
- Dull Knife: The most common cause. Replace the upper knife.

- Lint Buildup: Clean the knife area thoroughly.
