Setup

Unpacking and Assembly

The Weber Q1200 grill typically requires minimal assembly. Ensure all components are present and undamaged before proceeding.

  • Carefully remove all packaging materials.
  • Place the grill on a stable, level surface.
  • Extend the two folding side tables for additional workspace.
  • Ensure the built-in catch pan is correctly positioned beneath the grill for grease collection.

Fuel Connection

The grill operates on disposable 16.4 oz. LP (Liquid Propane) cylinders. An optional adapter hose (sold separately) is available for connecting to a full-size 20-lb. propane tank for extended use.

  1. Ensure the burner control knob is in the "OFF" position.
  2. Screw the disposable LP cylinder clockwise into the regulator until hand-tight. Do not overtighten.
  3. If using the adapter hose, connect one end to the grill's regulator and the other to the 20-lb. propane tank. Ensure all connections are secure.
  4. Check for gas leaks using a soapy water solution on all connections. Bubbles indicate a leak. Do not operate if a leak is detected.

Operating Instructions

Ignition

  1. Ensure the lid is open before ignition.
  2. Turn the burner control knob to the "START/HIGH" position.
  3. Press the electronic push-button igniter repeatedly until the burner ignites. You should hear a clicking sound and see a flame.
  4. If the burner does not ignite within 5 seconds, turn the control knob to "OFF", wait 5 minutes for gas to dissipate, and repeat the ignition process.

Preheating and Temperature Control

Once ignited, close the lid and allow the grill to preheat for 10-15 minutes. The integrated lid thermometer will indicate the internal temperature. Use the infinite control burner valve to adjust the flame and maintain your desired cooking temperature.

Cooking Tips

  • For best results, always preheat the grill.

  • The split grates allow for a grate/griddle cooking combination. A compatible griddle (sold separately) can replace one of the grates for diverse cooking options.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Cooking Grates

After each use, while the grates are still warm, brush off any food residue with a grill brush. For a deeper clean, allow the grates to cool, then wash with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.

Grease Management

The grill features an easy pull-out design for the grease pan. Regularly check and empty the catch pan to prevent grease fires and maintain cleanliness.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Weber Q1200 grill, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Grill not igniting: Check if the gas cylinder is properly connected and has fuel. Ensure the igniter battery (1 AA battery included) is functional. Clear any blockages in the burner tubes.
  • Low flame or uneven heat: This could indicate low gas pressure. Check the gas cylinder level. Ensure the regulator is not in bypass mode (disconnect and reconnect the gas cylinder). Clean the burner ports if they are clogged.
  • Flare-ups: Excessive grease buildup can cause flare-ups. Ensure the grease pan is clean and empty. Trim excess fat from meats before grilling.
  • Gas smell: Immediately turn off the gas supply. Check all connections for leaks using soapy water. If the smell persists, do not operate the grill and contact customer support.
