Installation Guide

1. Attach the Clamp Unit: Use the provided Allen wrench to securely attach the helmet clamp unit to the left side of your helmet. Ensure it is firmly in place.
2. Install Speakers: Position the speakers inside your helmet's ear pockets. Use the Velcro fasteners to secure them. Ensure they are aligned with your ears for optimal audio.
3. Choose and Install Microphone:
   • Boom Microphone: Ideal for open-face or modular helmets. Attach it to the inside of the helmet, positioning the microphone close to your mouth.
   • Wired Microphone: Suitable for full-face helmets. Attach it to the inside of the helmet, near your mouth, using the adhesive backing.
4. Connect Components: Plug the speaker and microphone cables into the main SMH5 unit.
5. Mount the SMH5 Unit: Slide the main SMH5 unit onto the helmet clamp until it clicks securely into place.

Operating Your SMH5-UNIV

Power On/Off

To power on, press and hold the Jog Dial and Phone Button simultaneously until you hear an ascending tone. To power off, press and hold the Jog Dial and Phone Button simultaneously until you hear a descending tone.

Volume Control

Rotate the Jog Dial clockwise to increase volume and counter-clockwise to decrease volume.

Bluetooth Pairing

With the unit off, press and hold the Phone Button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue alternately. On your phone, search for Bluetooth devices and select "Sena SMH5". Enter "0000" if a PIN is required.

Intercom Function

The SMH5-UNIV features Universal Intercom for cross-brand interoperability. To start an intercom conversation, tap the Jog Dial. To end, tap it again.

Music Sharing

The music sharing feature allows two paired Sena intercom systems to share music. Refer to the full user guide for detailed controls.

Maintenance and Charging

The SMH5-UNIV unit is equipped with a Micro USB charging port. Connect the provided USB cable to the unit and a power source (e.g., computer USB port or USB wall adapter) to charge. Ensure the unit is fully charged before extended use.

Battery Life: The SMH5-UNIV offers approximately 7 hours of talk time.

Regularly inspect all cables and connections for wear and tear. Keep the unit clean and dry.

Troubleshooting

• Intercom Disconnections: In group rides, maintaining close proximity to other riders can improve connection stability. Obstacles and distance can affect signal quality.
• Poor Sound Quality (Intercom): Ensure the microphone is positioned correctly, close to your mouth, and away from direct wind. Check for proper speaker placement within the helmet.
• No Audio: Verify volume settings on both the SMH5 and your connected device. Check all cable connections.
