  • Large, Easy-to-Read LCD Screen: Provides clear visibility of measurement readings.
  • Replaceable Sensor: Extends the lifespan of the tester by allowing sensor replacement.

4. Setup

  1. Battery Installation: If batteries are not pre-installed, open the battery compartment cover located on the back of the tester. Insert 4 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the cover securely.
  2. Sensor Attachment: Ensure the sensor cap is removed. If the sensor is separate, align it with the connector at the bottom of the tester and twist gently until it clicks into place.
  3. Initial Power-On: Press the power button (usually marked with a power symbol) to turn on the tester. The display should illuminate and show initial readings or a welcome screen.
  4. Lanyard Attachment: Attach the provided lanyard to the designated loop on the tester for secure handling.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Calibration

Regular calibration is crucial for accurate measurements. Refer to the Quick Start Guide for specific calibration procedures for conductivity, TDS, and salinity using the provided calibration solution.

  1. Prepare Calibration Solution: Pour a small amount of the appropriate calibration solution into a clean beaker or container.
  2. Enter Calibration Mode: Turn on the tester. Press and hold the CAL button (or equivalent, refer to Quick Start Guide) until the display indicates calibration mode.
  3. Immerse Sensor: Rinse the sensor with distilled water and gently blot dry. Immerse the sensor into the calibration solution, ensuring the sensor tip is fully submerged and no air bubbles are trapped.
  4. Complete Calibration: Wait for the reading to stabilize. The tester will typically auto-recognize the solution and complete calibration. Follow on-screen prompts to confirm and save calibration.
  5. Rinse and Store: After calibration, rinse the sensor thoroughly with distilled water.

5.2. Taking Measurements

  1. Power On: Press the power button to turn on the tester.
  2. Select Mode (if applicable): If your tester has multiple modes (Cond, TDS, Salinity), press the MODE button to cycle through the desired measurement parameter.
  3. Prepare Sample: Ensure your sample is well-mixed and free of large particles.
  4. Immerse Sensor: Rinse the sensor with distilled water and gently blot dry. Immerse the sensor into the sample solution, ensuring the sensor tip is fully submerged. Gently stir to remove any air bubbles.
  5. Read Measurement: Wait for the reading on the LCD screen to stabilize. Record the measurement as needed. The display will show the primary measurement (e.g., conductivity) and often the temperature simultaneously.
  6. Rinse After Use: After each measurement, rinse the sensor thoroughly with distilled water to prevent contamination and buildup.
  7. Power Off: Press the power button to turn off the tester when finished.

6. Maintenance

  • Sensor Cleaning: Regularly clean the sensor to ensure accurate readings. Rinse with distilled water after each use. For stubborn deposits, refer to the Quick Start Guide for recommended cleaning solutions (e.g., mild detergent, acid wash for mineral deposits).
  • Sensor Storage: When not in use, store the sensor with its protective cap on, ideally with a small amount of storage solution or distilled water inside the cap to keep the sensor hydrated. Do not store dry.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Use 4 new AAA alkaline batteries.
  • General Cleaning: Wipe the tester body with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the main unit in water.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Tester does not power on. Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. Replace batteries with new AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
Inaccurate or unstable readings. Dirty sensor; sensor not properly immersed; calibration required; expired calibration solution. Clean sensor thoroughly; ensure sensor is fully submerged; perform calibration; use fresh calibration solution.
"Err" or error message on display. Sensor fault; measurement out of range; internal error. Clean sensor and re-calibrate. If error persists, replace sensor. Contact Hach support if issue continues.
Slow response time. Sensor dry or contaminated. Re-hydrate sensor in storage solution or distilled water for 30 minutes. Clean sensor.
