6. Operating Instructions
6.1. PC Mode (Connecting to Computer)
In PC mode, the docking station functions as an external multi-bay hard drive enclosure, allowing your computer to access the installed drives.
- Ensure the docking station is powered on and connected to your computer via the USB 3.0 cable.
- Set the mode switch on the back of the unit to 'PC'.
- Your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux) should automatically detect the drives. New drives may require initialization and formatting before use.
- Hot-Swapping: The device supports hot-swapping. However, be aware that inserting or removing a drive while others are active may cause a momentary disconnection of all drives as the system re-enumerates. It is recommended to safely eject or unmount drives before removal, especially if data transfer is in progress.

6.2. Clone Function (Offline 1-to-3 Duplication)
The clone function allows you to duplicate data from a source drive to up to three target drives without connecting to a computer. The target drives must be equal to or larger in capacity than the source drive.

Image: Close-up of the ORICO docking station's rear panel, showing the switch to select between 'CLONE' and 'PC' modes.
- Prepare Drives: Ensure the source drive (containing data to be copied) is inserted into the 'Source' bay (HDD4). Insert the target drives (where data will be copied to) into the 'Target' bays (HDD1, HDD2, HDD3).
- Disconnect from PC: Ensure the USB data cable is disconnected from the computer. The cloning process must be performed offline.
- Set Mode: Set the mode switch on the back of the unit to 'CLONE'.
- Power On: Press the power button. Wait for all drive indicator lights to turn blue, indicating drives are ready.
- Initiate Clone: Press the 'RESET' button once, then press the 'START' button twice quickly.
- Monitor Progress: The drive indicator LEDs will flash red, indicating the cloning process is in progress. Each LED corresponds to a drive.
- Completion: When cloning is complete, the LEDs will show a constant red light, and the unit will emit three beeps.
- Power Off and Remove: Press the power button to turn off the unit, then safely remove the hard drives.

Important Note on Cloning:
- The target drive(s) must have a capacity equal to or greater than the source drive.
- All data on the target drive(s) will be overwritten during the cloning process. Back up any important data on target drives before proceeding.
- Do not interrupt the cloning process once it has started.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the docking station. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Handling: Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
- Ventilation: Ensure the docking station has adequate ventilation during operation to prevent overheating, especially when multiple drives are active.
8. Troubleshooting
- Drives Not Recognized:
- Ensure the power adapter is securely connected and the docking station is powered on.
- Verify the USB 3.0 cable is properly connected to both the docking station and the computer.
- Check if the drive is properly seated in the bay.
- For new drives, ensure they are initialized and formatted in Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS).
- Try a different USB port on your computer.
- Cloning Fails or Does Not Start:
- Ensure the USB data cable is disconnected from the computer. The clone function is offline only.
- Verify the mode switch is set to 'CLONE'.
- Confirm that the source drive is in the 'Source' bay (HDD4) and target drives are in 'Target' bays (HDD1-3).
- Ensure target drive(s) capacity is equal to or greater than the source drive.
- Re-attempt the cloning steps carefully: Power on, wait for blue lights, press RESET once, then START twice.
- Slow Transfer Speeds:
- Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer. USB 2.0 ports will result in slower speeds.
- Check the health and speed of the hard drives themselves.
- Avoid running multiple demanding applications during large file transfers.
- Power Issues:
- Ensure the power adapter is the original ORICO 12V6A adapter.
- Check the power outlet.
