1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your Everbilt SCN250-LQ 1/3 HP Pedestal Sump Pump. This pump is designed for residential applications to efficiently remove unwanted water from sump pits. Please read these instructions thoroughly before installation and operation to ensure proper function and safety.
2. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to reduce the risk of injury, electric shock, or property damage:
- Disconnect Power: Always disconnect the pump from the power source before performing any maintenance or service.
- Electrical Grounding: Ensure the pump is properly grounded. Do not remove the grounding prong from the power cord.
- Power Cord: Do not operate the pump with a damaged power cord. Do not use extension cords.
- Water Temperature: Do not pump liquids hotter than 95°F (35°C) or colder than 35°F (1.7°C).
- Flammable Liquids: Do not pump flammable or corrosive liquids. This pump is for water only.
- Moving Parts: Keep hands and foreign objects clear of the pump's inlet and discharge openings during operation.
3. Setup and Installation
The Everbilt SCN250-LQ pedestal sump pump is designed for easy installation and to fit into a 12-inch diameter or larger sump basin.
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the pump and all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. If damage is found, do not proceed with installation and contact customer support.

3.2 Sump Pit Preparation
Ensure your sump pit is clean and free of debris. The pit must be at least 12 inches in diameter to accommodate the pump properly.
3.3 Pump Placement
Place the pump on a solid, level surface at the bottom of the sump pit. Ensure the pump is stable and will not tip over during operation.

3.4 Discharge Pipe Connection
Connect a 1-1/4 inch NPT discharge pipe to the pump's outlet. It is recommended to install a check valve in the discharge line to prevent water from flowing back into the sump pit when the pump turns off.
3.5 Float Switch Adjustment
The pump features an adjustable float and rod type switch. Adjust the float to set the desired ON and OFF levels for the pump. Ensure the float can move freely without obstruction within the sump pit.
3.6 Electrical Connection
Plug the 8 ft. power cord with a grounded plug into a properly grounded 115V AC electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI).
4. Operating Instructions
The Everbilt SCN250-LQ pump operates automatically based on the water level in the sump pit, controlled by its adjustable float switch.
4.1 Automatic Operation
Once properly installed and plugged in, the pump will turn on automatically when the water level rises and lifts the float switch to the 'ON' position. It will continue to pump water until the level drops and the float switch reaches the 'OFF' position.
4.2 Performance
This 1/3 HP pump is capable of moving up to 2,400 gallons per hour (GPH) at a 10-foot lift. Its non-corrosive thermoplastic reinforced housing and heavy-duty, high-efficiency permanent split capacitor motor with thermal overload protector ensure reliable performance.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and efficient operation of your sump pump.
- Monthly Inspection: Periodically check the sump pit for any accumulation of debris, dirt, or sediment that could obstruct the pump's inlet or the float switch.
- Float Switch Check: Manually lift the float switch to ensure it moves freely and activates the pump. The pump should turn on when the float is raised and turn off when it is lowered.
- Discharge Line: Verify that the discharge pipe is clear and free of obstructions. Ensure the check valve (if installed) is functioning correctly.
- Pump Housing: Inspect the pump's thermoplastic housing for any signs of damage or cracks.
- Power Cord: Check the power cord for any fraying, cuts, or damage. Replace if necessary.
6. Troubleshooting
If your Everbilt SCN250-LQ pump is not operating as expected, refer to the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not run | No power to the pump | Check if the power cord is securely plugged in. Verify the circuit breaker or GFCI has not tripped. |
| Float switch is stuck or obstructed | Clear any debris around the float switch and ensure it moves freely. | |
| Thermal overload protector tripped | Allow the pump to cool down. The protector will reset automatically. Check for causes of overheating (e.g., continuous running, low voltage). | |
| Pump runs but does not pump water | Clogged inlet or discharge pipe | Disconnect power and clear any obstructions from the pump inlet or discharge line. |
| Airlock in the pump | Ensure the pump is fully submerged and there is no air trapped in the system. Briefly unplug and replug the pump to attempt to clear an airlock. | |
| Pump cycles too frequently | Float switch adjustment incorrect | Adjust the float switch to increase the distance between the ON and OFF points. |
| Check valve leaking | Inspect or replace the check valve in the discharge line. |
