3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your Remco pump. Follow these steps carefully:

3.1 Mounting the Pump

  • Mount the pump in a secure, dry location, protected from direct weather exposure.
  • Ensure adequate space around the pump for ventilation and access for maintenance.
  • The pump can self-prime up to 14 feet (4.0 m) vertically. Position it as close as possible to the fluid source for best results.

3.2 Electrical Connections

  • The pump operates on 12 VDC. Connect the 14 AWG wire leads (6" or 12" 2-Pin Mold / Custom Connection) to a suitable 12-volt power source.
  • Ensure correct polarity: Red wire is positive (+), Black wire is negative (-).
  • Use appropriate fusing for the electrical circuit to protect the pump and power supply.

3.3 Fluid Connections

  • The pump features 3/4" Quick Attach Ports for fluid connections.
  • Connect the inlet port to your fluid supply and the outlet port to your application system.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free.

4. Operating Instructions

The Remco 5.3 GPM Demand Pump operates in a demand mode, meaning it will run when there is a demand for fluid and shut off when the demand ceases or pressure is reached.

4.1 Initial Start-up

  1. Ensure all fluid connections are tight and the pump is securely mounted.
  2. Verify the fluid source is open and available to the pump.
  3. Connect the pump to the 12 VDC power supply. The pump may run briefly to prime itself.
  4. Open the discharge valve or nozzle to allow fluid to flow. The pump will start automatically.
  5. Once the system is primed and air is purged, the pump will operate smoothly.

4.2 Chemical Application

This pump is designed for use with various agricultural chemicals, including herbicides, fertilizers, and insecticides. Always ensure the chemicals used are compatible with Viton valves and Santoprene diaphragms to prevent damage.

  • Refer to the chemical manufacturer's guidelines for proper mixing ratios and application rates.
  • Avoid running the pump dry for extended periods, as this can cause damage. The pump has dry run capability for short durations.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the life and ensure the reliable operation of your Remco pump.

5.1 Post-Use Cleaning

  • After every use, especially when pumping chemicals, it is highly recommended to rinse the pump thoroughly with clean water.
  • Run clean water through the pump for several minutes to flush out any residual chemicals.

5.2 Temperature Management

  • The maximum liquid temperature is 140°F (60°C).
  • The maximum motor temperature is 180°F (82°C). However, for user safety, optimal performance, and maximum motor life, the motor surface temperature should not exceed 150°F (66°C).
  • Monitor the pump's temperature during prolonged operation. If it becomes excessively hot, allow it to cool down.

5.3 Storage

  • If storing the pump for an extended period, ensure it is thoroughly cleaned and drained of all liquids.
  • Store in a dry, frost-free environment.
