1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) console, model CUH-1115A / CUH-1116A series. 2. Safety Information

Before using this product, carefully read this manual and any manuals for compatible hardware. Keep all manuals for future reference. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage.

2.1 Electrical Safety

  • Use only the supplied AC power cord. Do not use other power cords.
  • Do not handle the AC power cord with wet hands.
  • Do not expose the console or accessories to water or other liquids.
  • Unplug the AC power cord from the electrical outlet before cleaning or when not in use for an extended period.

2.2 Ventilation

  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the console. Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Do not place the console on a carpet or rug with long fibers, or in a confined space.

2.3 Handling Discs

  • Hold discs by their edges to avoid fingerprints or scratches.
  • Do not use cracked, chipped, or warped discs.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure the following items are present:

  • PlayStation 4 console (CUH-1115A / CUH-1116A series)
  • DualShock 4 Wireless Controller
  • HDMI Cable
  • USB Cable (for controller charging)
  • AC Power Cord
  • Mono Headset

3.2 Connecting to a TV

  1. Connect one end of the supplied HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the PS4 console.
  2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input on your television.
  3. Ensure your TV is set to the correct HDMI input channel.

3.3 Connecting Power

  1. Connect the supplied AC power cord to the AC IN connector on the PS4 console.
  2. Plug the other end of the AC power cord into a wall outlet.

3.4 Connecting the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller

  1. Connect the supplied USB cable to a USB port on the PS4 console.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the DualShock 4 controller.
  3. Press the PS button on the controller. The controller will pair with the console and begin charging.
  4. Once paired, you can disconnect the USB cable for wireless play.

3.5 Initial Setup

Upon first power-on, the console will guide you through initial setup steps, including language selection, internet connection setup, and time zone settings. Follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Operating

4.1 Turning On/Off

  • To turn on: Press the power button on the console or the PS button on a paired controller.
  • To turn off: Hold the PS button on the controller to bring up the Quick Menu, then select Power > Turn Off PS4. Alternatively, press and hold the power button on the console for at least 7 seconds until it beeps twice.
  • Rest Mode: From the Quick Menu, select Power > Enter Rest Mode. In Rest Mode, the console consumes less power and can charge controllers, download updates, and keep games suspended.

4.2 Navigating the User Interface

Use the DualShock 4 controller's directional buttons or left stick to navigate the PS4 home screen. The main interface consists of:

  • Function Screen: Located at the top, providing access to notifications, friends, party, profile, settings, and power options.
  • Content Area: Displays your games, applications, and other content.
  • PlayStation Store: Access to purchase and download digital games and content.

4.3 Playing Games

  • Disc-based games: Insert the game disc into the disc slot on the front of the console. The game icon will appear in the Content Area. Select it to start.
  • Digital games: Download games from the PlayStation Store. Once downloaded and installed, the game icon will appear in the Content Area. Select it to start.

4.4 Connecting to PlayStation Network (PSN)

To access online multiplayer, digital purchases, and other online features, you need a PlayStation Network account and an internet connection.

  1. From the Function Screen, go to Settings > Account Management > Sign In to PlayStation Network.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to create a new account or sign in with an existing one.

4.5 Using the DualShock 4 Controller

The DualShock 4 controller features:

  • Touch Pad: For specific game interactions and navigation.
  • SHARE Button: To share screenshots and video clips.
  • OPTIONS Button: Access in-game menus or system options.
  • Light Bar: Changes color to indicate player number, health, or other game states.
  • Built-in Speaker and Headset Jack: For audio output and communication.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Console

  • Ensure the console is turned off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces of the console and controller.
  • Do not use liquid cleaners, solvents, or abrasive cloths.
  • Periodically clean dust from ventilation openings using a soft brush or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment.

5.2 Software Updates

Keep your PS4 system software updated to ensure optimal performance and access to new features. The console can be set to download updates automatically in Rest Mode.

  1. Go to Settings > System Software Update.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to check for and install updates.

5.3 Storage Management

The PS4 console comes with a 500GB hard drive. You can manage your storage space by deleting unwanted games, applications, or saved data.

  1. Go to Settings > Storage.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Ensure the disc is inserted correctly.

Internet connection issues
  • Check your router/modem and internet service.
  • Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection to diagnose.
  • Try connecting via a wired Ethernet cable if using Wi-Fi.
