2. Safety Information
Adherence to safety guidelines is paramount when operating the Hoyer Advance Patient Lift. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury to the patient or caregiver, or damage to the equipment.
- Read the Entire Manual: Ensure all operators have read and understood this manual before use.
- Weight Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum safe working load of 340 lbs (154 kg).
- Sling Compatibility: Always use slings compatible with the Hoyer Advance lift. Ensure slings are in good condition and correctly attached.
- Stable Surface: Operate the lift on a flat, stable, and level surface. Avoid uneven terrain or obstacles.
- Emergency Stop Button: The red emergency stop button on the control panel immediately cuts power to the lift. Pressing this button will stop all functions. To resume operation, twist the button clockwise to release it. Note that the lift will not operate while charging or when the emergency stop button is engaged.
- Caster Wheels: Ensure caster wheels are locked when the lift is stationary during patient transfer to prevent unintended movement. Unlock wheels for maneuvering.

4. Setup
The Hoyer Advance lift is designed for quick setup, often arriving mostly assembled. Follow these steps to prepare the lift for initial use:
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the lift from its packaging. While manageable, assistance may be beneficial due to its size.
- Unfolding: If the lift is in its folded position, gently unfold the mast and boom until they lock into place. Ensure all locking mechanisms are securely engaged.
- Battery Installation/Charging: The lift requires one 12V battery (included). Ensure the battery is properly connected. For initial use, fully charge the battery. Connect the charger to the control box and a power outlet. The lift will not operate while charging.

5. Operating Instructions
Operating the Hoyer Advance lift involves several key steps to ensure a safe and comfortable transfer for the patient.
5.1 Controls and Indicators

- Remote Control: Use the handheld remote to raise and lower the boom.
- Emergency Stop: As detailed in Section 2, press to immediately cut power. Release by twisting clockwise.
- Battery Indicator: The control panel displays the battery charge level. Ensure sufficient charge before use.
5.2 Base Adjustment
The lift features swan legs and an adjuster pedal to control the width of the base, allowing access around wheelchairs and furniture.
- Open Base: Press the pedal to widen the base legs for increased stability or to fit around obstacles.
- Close Base: Release the pedal to narrow the base legs for maneuvering through doorways or storage.
5.3 Sling Attachment

- Lift Patient: Using the remote control, slowly raise the patient a few inches off the surface. Pause to check sling attachment and patient comfort.
- Maneuver: Unlock the caster wheels. Use the oversized handle and push pad to carefully maneuver the lift to the destination. Guide the lift smoothly, avoiding sudden movements.
- Lower Patient: Position the patient over the target surface (bed, chair). Lock the caster wheels. Slowly lower the patient until they are securely seated.
- Remove Sling: Once the patient is safely transferred, detach the sling from the spreader bar.
