Introduction

The AT&T EL52303 is a 3-handset cordless answering system designed for clear and convenient communication. It features DECT 6.0 technology for enhanced sound quality and range, a built-in answering system, Caller ID, and Call Waiting capabilities. Each handset includes an extra-large LCD display with high-contrast black text on a white background for easy viewing, and a lighted keypad for dialing in low-light conditions. The system also offers a speakerphone function for hands-free conversations and can be expanded to support up to 5 handsets.

Setup

1. Initial Installation

1. Connect the Base Unit:
   • Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the main base unit.
   • Plug the other end of the telephone line cord into a telephone wall jack.
   • Plug the small end of the base unit power adapter into the POWER jack on the back of the main base unit.
   • Plug the large end of the base unit power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
2. Install Handset Batteries:
   • Open the battery compartment cover on the back of each handset.
   • Insert the two AA batteries, observing the polarity markings (+ and -).
   • Close the battery compartment cover securely.
3. Charge Handsets:
   • Place each handset face forward into its respective charging cradle or the main base unit.
   • Ensure the "CHARGE" indicator light on the handset or base/cradle illuminates, indicating proper charging.
   • Allow handsets to charge for at least 16 hours before first use to ensure optimal battery performance.

2. Handset Registration (if needed)

Your handsets are pre-registered to the base unit. If a handset displays "Out of range" or "Register HS" after charging, it may need to be registered manually. This process is also used for registering new or replacement handsets.

1. On the base unit, press and hold the HANDSET LOCATOR button for about 4 seconds until the IN USE light on the base unit turns on. Release the button.
2. On the handset, press the # key. The handset will display "Registering..."
3. Once registration is complete, the handset will display "Handset Registered" and emit a confirmation tone. The IN USE light on the base unit will turn off.
4. If registration fails, repeat the steps.

Operating Instructions

Making and Receiving Calls

• To Make a Call: Press PHONE/FLASH or SPEAKER, then dial the number.
• To Answer a Call: Press PHONE/FLASH or SPEAKER when the phone rings.
• To End a Call: Press OFF/CANCEL or place the handset back in the charging cradle/base.

Using the Answering System

• Turn On/Off: Press ANS ON/OFF button on the base unit.
• Play Messages: Press PLAY/STOP on the base unit. You can also access messages from a handset via the MENU options.
• Record Greeting: Access the Answering System menu on a handset or base unit to record a personalized outgoing message.

Caller ID and Call Waiting

• View Caller ID: When the phone rings, the caller's information will display on the handset screen. You can review past calls using the CID button or arrow keys.
• Call Waiting: If you subscribe to Call Waiting service, a tone will sound when another call comes in. Press PHONE/FLASH to switch to the incoming call.

Speakerphone Function

• To Activate: During a call, press the SPEAKER button on the handset.
• To Deactivate: Press SPEAKER again or lift the handset to return to private mode.

Intercom Between Handsets

• To Initiate: Press the INT button on any handset. If you have multiple handsets, you may need to dial the target handset number (e.g., 1, 2, 3).
• To Answer: The receiving handset will ring. Press PHONE/FLASH or SPEAKER to answer the intercom call.

Maintenance

• Battery Care:
  • Keep handsets in their charging cradles when not in use to ensure batteries are fully charged.
  • If the handset battery low indicator appears, place the handset in the charger.
  • Replace batteries when they no longer hold a charge effectively. Use only the specified type and size (AA batteries).
• Cleaning:
  • Clean the phone's surfaces with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
  • Do not use harsh cleaning agents or abrasive materials.
  • Avoid getting moisture into any openings.
• Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the phone to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or excessive moisture.
