Setup

  1. Placement: Place the brewer on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate clearance around the unit for ventilation.
  2. Power Connection: Plug the brewer into a grounded electrical outlet. This brewer does not require plumbing to operate.
  3. Initial Fill: Before first use, fill the water reservoir. Open the lid on top of the brewer and pour cold, fresh water into the opening until it reaches the fill line or the tank is full.
  4. Pre-heating: Allow approximately 15-20 minutes for the water in the internal tank to heat to the optimal brewing temperature. The "Ready" indicator light (if present) will illuminate when the brewer is ready.

Operating Instructions

Brewing Coffee

  1. Insert Filter: Place a BUNN coffee filter into the brew funnel.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Add the desired amount of fresh, commercially ground coffee into the filter. Refer to coffee packaging for recommended amounts.
  3. Position Funnel: Slide the brew funnel into the funnel rails beneath the sprayhead. Ensure it is securely in place.
  4. Place Decanter: Place an empty decanter (sold separately) on the warming plate directly below the brew funnel.
  5. Pour Water: Open the lid on top of the brewer and pour cold, fresh water into the opening. The brewing cycle will begin immediately as the cold water displaces the hot water in the tank, forcing it through the sprayhead.
  6. Brewing Complete: The brewing cycle will complete when all the water has passed through the coffee grounds into the decanter.
  7. Remove Funnel: Carefully remove the brew funnel and discard the used coffee grounds and filter.

Using Warming Plates

The BUNN Pour-O-Matic brewer features three separately controlled warming plates to keep coffee at an optimal serving temperature.

  • Each warming plate has an independent ON/OFF switch, typically located on the front panel of the brewer.
  • Place a decanter of brewed coffee on the desired warming plate.
  • Flip the corresponding switch to the "ON" position to activate the warmer. An indicator light will typically illuminate when the warmer is active.
  • Flip the switch to the "OFF" position when the warmer is no longer needed or the decanter is empty.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BUNN coffee brewer.

Daily Cleaning

  • Unplug: Always unplug the brewer from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Exterior: Wipe down the stainless steel hood, base, and other exterior surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Brew Funnel: Wash the brew funnel with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Decanters (if applicable): Wash decanters with warm, soapy water. For best results, use a brush designed for cleaning coffee pots.

Periodic Descaling (Mineral Deposit Removal)

Mineral deposits from water can build up inside the brewer over time, affecting performance. Descale your brewer periodically, depending on your water hardness.

  1. Empty Brewer: Ensure the brewer is cool and empty of water.
  2. Descaling Solution: Use a commercial descaling solution designed for coffee makers, or a mixture of white vinegar and water (e.g., 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water).
  3. Run Cycle: Pour the descaling solution into the water reservoir and run a brewing cycle without coffee grounds.
  4. Rinse: After the descaling cycle, run several cycles with fresh, clean water to thoroughly rinse out any remaining descaling solution.
