ABUS DTS2814 ABTS01644 Digital Door Viewer User Manual

Model: ABTS01644

Introduction

The ABUS DTS2814 digital door viewer provides a clear and secure way to identify visitors before opening your door. This device replaces traditional peepholes with a modern digital display, offering enhanced visibility and convenience for all users.

It features a 0.3-megapixel CMOS camera with a 105-degree viewing angle, ensuring a wide perspective of the area outside your door. The 2.8-inch TFT screen delivers a bright and clear image, even in challenging lighting conditions. The system is designed to accommodate door thicknesses ranging from 38 mm to 110 mm.

Setup and Installation

Package Contents:

  • TFT Screen Unit
  • Mounting Bracket
  • Lens Unit with Transmission Cable
  • Mounting Fork
  • Three Plastic Adapters (for various door thicknesses)
  • Four AAA Alkaline Batteries
  • Installation Instructions (this manual)

Required Tools (Not Included):

  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Drill
  • 3 mm Drill Bit
  • 14 mm Drill Bit

Installation Steps:

  1. Remove Existing Peephole (if applicable): If a traditional peephole is present, carefully unscrew and remove it from the door.
  2. Prepare the Door Hole: Ensure the door hole is clean and has a diameter suitable for the lens unit. If a new hole is required, use a 14 mm drill bit. For the transmission cable, a 3 mm drill bit might be needed if a separate hole is not already present or if the main hole is too tight.
  3. Insert Lens Unit: From the exterior side of the door, insert the lens unit through the prepared hole. Ensure the camera is facing outwards and is correctly oriented. The transmission cable should pass through to the interior side.
  4. Attach Mounting Fork: On the interior side, slide the mounting fork over the transmission cable and secure it to the lens unit.
  5. Install Plastic Adapters: Select the appropriate plastic adapter(s) based on your door's thickness (38 mm to 110 mm). Place them between the mounting fork and the door surface to ensure a snug fit.
  6. Connect Screen Unit: Connect the transmission cable from the lens unit to the designated port on the TFT screen unit.
  7. Mount Screen Unit: Secure the TFT screen unit to the mounting bracket. The bracket should be attached to the interior side of the door, aligning with the lens unit. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten any screws.
  8. Insert Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the screen unit and insert the four AAA alkaline batteries, observing correct polarity.
  9. Test Functionality: Press the 'ON' button on the screen unit to verify that the digital door viewer is functioning correctly and displays an image from the exterior.

Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: Locate the 'ON' button (usually on the side or front of the screen unit). Press this button to activate the display.
  2. View Visitor: The 2.8-inch TFT screen will immediately display a clear and bright image of the area outside your door. The 105-degree wide-angle view ensures you can see a broad perspective.
  3. Automatic Shut-off: To conserve battery life, the screen will automatically turn off after a short period of inactivity.

The large, clear display is particularly beneficial for individuals who may find traditional peepholes difficult to use, such as children, seniors, glasses wearers, or those with mobility challenges.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement:

The ABUS DTS2814 is powered by four AAA alkaline batteries. When the display becomes dim or fails to turn on, it's time to replace the batteries.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back or side of the screen unit.
  2. Open the compartment cover.
  3. Remove the old batteries and dispose of them responsibly according to local regulations.
  4. Insert four new AAA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  5. Close the battery compartment cover securely.
  6. Test the unit by pressing the 'ON' button.

Cleaning:

To maintain optimal performance and clarity:

  • Screen: Gently wipe the TFT screen with a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn smudges, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a screen-safe cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Lens: Periodically clean the exterior lens with a soft, clean cloth to ensure a clear view.
  • Housing: Wipe the main unit housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
