1. Safety Information

This Kidde Pi9010 Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm is designed to provide early warning of fire. For optimal protection, it combines both ionization and photoelectric sensing technologies to detect both fast-flaming and slow-smoldering fires.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Battery Installation

The Kidde Pi9010 smoke alarm operates on a standard 9-volt battery, which is included. Ensure the battery is correctly installed before mounting the alarm.

  1. Open the battery compartment on the back of the alarm.
  2. Connect the 9-volt battery to the battery clip, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Place the battery into the compartment and close the cover securely.

3.2 Mounting the Alarm

Select a suitable location for your smoke alarm, typically on the ceiling or high on a wall, away from corners and obstructions. Use the provided mounting bracket and hardware.

  1. Attach the mounting bracket to the ceiling or wall using the screws provided.
  2. Align the alarm with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it locks into place.
  3. Perform an initial test as described in Section 4.1.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Testing the Alarm

Test your smoke alarm weekly to ensure it is functioning correctly.

  1. Press and hold the test/reset button located on the front of the alarm.
  2. The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating horn. Release the button once the horn sounds.
  3. If the alarm does not sound, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

4.2 Hush Feature

The Hush feature temporarily silences the alarm for approximately seven minutes during non-emergency situations, such as cooking fumes.

  1. To activate, press the Hush button when the alarm is sounding due to a nuisance condition.
  2. The alarm will silence, and the red LED will flash every 30-40 seconds to indicate it is in Hush mode.
  3. After approximately seven minutes, the alarm will automatically reset. If smoke is still present, the alarm will sound again.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

The alarm will emit a brief chirp every 30 to 40 seconds for at least seven days when the 9-volt battery needs replacement.

  1. Twist the alarm counter-clockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket.
  2. Open the battery compartment and disconnect the old 9-volt battery.
  3. Connect a new 9-volt battery, ensuring correct polarity, and close the compartment.
  4. Reattach the alarm to the mounting bracket and test its operation.

5.2 Cleaning Your Alarm

Clean your smoke alarm regularly to prevent dust and debris from interfering with its operation.

  • Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently remove dust from the alarm's cover and vents.
  • Do not use water, cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the unit.

6. Troubleshooting
