3. Installation Instructions

Installation of the Bugflector II is designed to be straightforward and requires no drilling. Please follow these steps carefully for optimal fit and adhesion.

3.1 Pre-Installation Checklist

• Ensure your vehicle is clean and at room temperature.
• Perform a trial fit of the Bugflector II to ensure proper position and fit before proceeding with adhesion.
• Gather necessary tools: alcohol prep pads (included), Phillips head screwdriver (if using mechanical fasteners).

3.2 Step-by-Step Installation

1. Clean the Hood Surface: Use the provided alcohol prep pad to thoroughly wipe down the surface of the hood where the Bugflector II will attach. This prepares the surface for the 3M adhesive tape.
2. Prepare the Bugflector II: Locate the small holes on each side of the Bugflector II where it folds over the headlights. These are for alignment.
3. Mark Hood for Protection Film: With the hood popped open, temporarily place the Bugflector II on the hood to mark the exact locations on the underside of the hood where the small holes align. Apply the protective 3M film (included in your kit) over these marked areas on the hood.
4. Attach Clips (if applicable): If your model uses clips, align the threaded hole on the clip underneath the hole on the Bugflector II. Insert the supplied plastic washer and Phillips head screw. Finger-tighten only for now.
5. Prepare Adhesive Tape: Release approximately 1.5 inches of the red backing from the 3M adhesive tape on the Bugflector II, folding it over so it extends from the front side of the hood. Do this on both sides.
6. Align and Secure: Carefully align the Bugflector II with the hood. Once in place, bring the bracket down and clip it onto the protective wear strip on the hood. Ensure proper alignment before proceeding.
7. Adhere to Hood: Gently close the hood down to the truck, ensuring it latches securely. Verify that the hood does not contact the grille at any point. Then, push down on the hood and slowly peel away the remaining red tape protector while applying firm pressure to ensure proper adhesion against the hood. Also, reach to the inside and apply pressure to the inner adhesive surface.
8. Add Bump Stops: Peel off the adhesive protector from the bottom of the bump stops (included in your kit). Lift the hood slightly and set the bump stops in place on the underside of the hood where they will contact the deflector.
9. Final Tightening: On both sides, snug up the Phillips head screws (if applicable) to fully secure the Bugflector II.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and appearance of your Auto Ventshade Bugflector II, regular cleaning is recommended. The off-the-hood design facilitates easy access for cleaning and waxing both the shield and your vehicle's hood.

• Clean with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
• The Bugflector II is car wash safe, but it is recommended to wait 72 hours after installation before the first car wash to allow the adhesive to fully cure.
• Regularly check the attachment points to ensure they remain secure.

5. Troubleshooting

While the Bugflector II is designed for easy installation and durability, here are some common troubleshooting tips:

• Adhesion Issues: If the adhesive tape is not holding properly, ensure the surface was thoroughly cleaned and dry before application. Temperature can affect adhesion; install in a warm environment (room temperature). Re-apply firm pressure along the entire length of the tape.
• Improper Fit/Alignment: If the shield does not sit flush or appears misaligned, re-check the alignment points and ensure the clips (if used) are correctly positioned and finger-tightened before final adhesion. Do not fully tighten screws until the shield is properly aligned and adhered.
• Vibration/Noise: Ensure all fasteners are snug and the adhesive is fully bonded. The bump stops are crucial for preventing contact and vibration between the shield and the hood. Verify they are correctly installed.
