Setup
Your Brinks Dial Combination Lock comes with a factory-set combination. This combination is typically found on a sticker on the back of the lock, on the packaging, or on a small tag attached to the shackle. Please locate this combination before first use.
Initial Opening
- Locate the factory-set three-digit combination.
- Turn the dial clockwise multiple times to clear any previous settings.
- Align the first number of your combination with the indicator mark (usually a red triangle or line) on the top of the lock.
- Turn the dial counter-clockwise, passing the second number of your combination once, and then stopping precisely on the second number.
- Turn the dial clockwise directly to the third number of your combination.
- Pull up on the shackle to open the lock. If it does not open, ensure each number is precisely aligned with the indicator mark.

Operating the Lock
To Open the Lock:
- Ensure the shackle is fully closed and locked.
- Follow the steps for Initial Opening (Steps 2-6) using your known combination.
- Once the shackle pops open, you can remove it from the secured item.
To Close and Secure the Lock:
- Insert the shackle firmly into the lock body until it clicks into place.
- Spin the dial to a random number to scramble the combination. This ensures the lock is secured and cannot be opened without dialing the correct combination.

Maintenance
Your Brinks combination lock is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Keep the lock clean and free from dirt, dust, and debris. A soft, dry cloth can be used for cleaning.
- Avoid exposing the lock to extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals, which could damage the finish or internal mechanism.
- If the dial becomes stiff, a small amount of graphite lubricant (not oil-based lubricants) can be applied to the shackle opening and dial mechanism.
- Store the lock in a dry environment when not in use to prevent corrosion.
Troubleshooting
Lock Will Not Open:
- Incorrect Combination: Double-check that you are using the correct factory-set combination. Ensure you are dialing the numbers precisely to the indicator mark.
- Dialing Error: Make sure you are following the correct dialing sequence (clockwise multiple turns, then specific turns for each number).
- Misalignment: Ensure the dial is not stuck between numbers. Gently wiggle the shackle while attempting to open after dialing the combination.
- Forgotten Combination: For security reasons, the factory-set combination for this type of lock cannot be reset by the user if forgotten. If the combination is lost and not recorded, the lock may need to be replaced.
Shackle is Stiff:
- Dirt/Debris: Clean the shackle and the shackle holes on the lock body.
- Lubrication: Apply a small amount of graphite lubricant to the shackle and the shackle holes.
