Maclean Energy MCE06 Electricity Meter User Manual
Model: MCE06 | Brand: Maclean
Introduction
The Maclean Energy MCE06 is a versatile multi-function electricity meter designed to measure and monitor your electrical power consumption. This watt-hour meter provides real-time data on various electrical parameters, helping you understand and manage your energy usage effectively. It allows you to view up to three values simultaneously on its multi-function display, such as power, power factor, and time, or voltage, frequency, and time, among other combinations.
Product Features
- Multi-function electricity and watt-hour meter.
- Displays current time.
- Displays voltage.
- Displays current consumption.
- Displays load power consumption (in watts).
- Displays and records the amount of consumed electricity.
- Displays and records the total duration of operation and energy loads (after setting the type).
- Displays electrical power frequency.
- Displays power factor.
Setup
1. Initial Setup and Battery Installation
The Maclean Energy MCE06 meter requires 3 LR44 batteries for its operating reserve, which helps maintain time and settings when the device is unplugged. These batteries are typically included. To install or replace them:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
- Open the battery cover.
- Insert 3 LR44 batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery cover securely. Ensure the cover is in place before use.

Operating Instructions
1. Display Information
The MCE06 features a multi-function display that shows various electrical parameters. Due to the compact size of the display, it may be necessary to view it in good lighting or at a close distance for optimal readability.
2. Button Functions
The device has three main buttons: UP, SET, and FUNC, along with a MASTER CLEAR button (a small recessed button, usually requiring a pointed object to press).
- UP Button: Used to scroll through options or increase values during settings.
- SET Button: Used to confirm selections or move to the next setting parameter.
- FUNC Button: Used to cycle through different display modes (e.g., time, voltage, power, frequency, power factor) and to access tariff setting modes. Short presses typically change display modes, while long presses access configuration menus.
- MASTER CLEAR Button: Resets all settings and accumulated data to factory defaults. Use with caution.
3. Basic Measurement Display
Once an appliance is plugged into the meter and powered on, the MCE06 will automatically begin measuring. Use the FUNC button to cycle through various display screens, showing parameters such as:
- Current Time
- Voltage (V)
- Current (A)
- Power (W)
- Frequency (Hz)
- Power Factor (PF)
- Accumulated Energy Consumption (kWh)
- Total Operating Time
4. Setting Tariffs (Price 1 / Price 2)
The MCE06 allows you to configure up to two different tariffs (e.g., for peak and off-peak hours) to calculate electricity costs. This process involves a combination of long and short presses of the FUNC and SET buttons.
- First, ensure the local time is set correctly on the device.
- Press and hold the FUNC button until "Price 1" appears on the right side of the screen.
- Use the SET button to navigate through the settings (e.g., day, hour, tariff rate).
- Use the UP button to adjust the values for each setting.
- Once "Price 1" (e.g., peak hour tariff) is configured, press the FUNC button briefly to access "Price 2" (e.g., off-peak hour tariff) settings.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 to configure "Price 2".
- The device will save the settings automatically after a period of inactivity or by cycling through all settings.
While the device is simple to configure, precise tariff settings may require careful adjustment as it might not support three decimal places for tariff rates.
5. Clearing Data
To clear accumulated consumption data or reset all settings:
- To clear specific counters: Navigate to the desired counter display (e.g., kWh) and look for an option to clear it, often by a long press of a button or a specific button combination not explicitly detailed in the provided data but implied by similar devices.
- To clear all history/reset: Use the small recessed MASTER CLEAR button. This will erase all stored data and return the device to its factory default settings.
Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the device, unplug it from the power outlet and disconnect any connected appliances. Wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the device in water.
Storage
Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, it is advisable to remove the LR44 batteries to prevent leakage.
Troubleshooting
- Display is difficult to read: The display is compact. Ensure you are viewing it in adequate lighting. For detailed readings, it may be helpful to view it up close.
- Difficulty programming settings (e.g., tariffs): The programming involves specific sequences of short and long presses of the FUNC and SET buttons. Refer to the "Operating Instructions" section carefully. Practice the button combinations. If issues persist, try a MASTER CLEAR reset and re-enter settings.
- Device not turning on or displaying:
- Ensure the meter is securely plugged into a live 230V AC 50Hz outlet.
- Check if the LR44 batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
- Inaccurate readings:
- Ensure the connected appliance is functioning correctly.
- Verify that the meter's specifications (e.g., max load 16A, 3600W) are not exceeded by the connected appliance.
