1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Alpine CDE-151 CD/MP3/WMA Receiver. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the unit to ensure proper operation and to prevent damage.

2. Safety Information

  • Power Supply: This unit is designed for 12V DC negative ground electrical systems. Ensure proper voltage to prevent damage.
  • Wiring: Connect all wires correctly and securely. Incorrect wiring can cause fire or malfunction. Refer to the wiring diagram carefully.
  • Installation Location: Install the unit in a location that does not obstruct the driver's view or interfere with vehicle operation. Avoid locations exposed to direct sunlight, extreme heat, or moisture.
  • Volume Level: Do not operate the unit at excessively high volume levels for extended periods, as this may cause hearing damage or distract from driving.
  • Disassembly: Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the unit. This may result in electric shock, fire, or other accidents. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

4. Installation

4.1 Wiring Connections

Before making any connections, disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits. Refer to the wiring diagram below for proper connections. Each wire is color-coded for identification.

  • Yellow (Constant Power): Connect to the vehicle's constant 12V power supply.
  • Red (Accessory Power): Connect to the vehicle's ignition-switched 12V power supply.
  • Black (Ground): Connect to a clean metal chassis point in the vehicle.
  • Blue/White (Remote Turn-On): Connect to the remote turn-on lead of an external amplifier or power antenna.
  • Speaker Wires: Connect to the corresponding vehicle speaker wires (e.g., White/White-Black for Front Left, Gray/Gray-Black for Front Right, Green/Green-Black for Rear Left, Purple/Purple-Black for Rear Right).
  • RCA Preamp Outputs: Connect to external amplifiers for front, rear, or subwoofer channels.

4.2 Mounting the Unit

The CDE-151 is a single-DIN unit. Use the supplied mounting sleeve and hardware to secure the unit in the vehicle's dashboard opening. Ensure the unit is firmly seated and does not vibrate. After mounting, attach the trim ring for a finished appearance.

5. Initial Setup

After installation, reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal. The unit will power on. Follow these steps for initial setup:

  1. Power On: Press the SOURCE/⑂ button to turn on the unit.
  2. Clock Setting: Access the setup menu to set the correct time. Refer to the 'System Settings' section for detailed instructions.
  3. Initial Audio Settings: Adjust basic audio parameters like Bass, Treble, Balance, and Fader to your preference.

6.1 Basic Controls

  • Rotary Encoder (Volume Knob): Turn to adjust volume. Press to access audio settings or confirm selections.
  • SOURCE/⑂ Button: Press to switch between input sources (CD, USB, AUX, Tuner). Press and hold to turn the unit off.
  • BASS Button: Directly access Bass Engine settings for quick bass adjustments.
  • BAND Button: In Tuner mode, press to switch between FM1, FM2, FM3, and AM bands.
  • Preset Buttons (1-6): Store and recall radio stations. In CD/USB mode, these may function as direct track selection or folder navigation.
  • Forward/Backward Buttons (◀◀/▶▶): Skip tracks/files or seek radio stations.

6.2 CD Playback

  1. Insert a CD into the disc slot with the label side up. The unit will automatically load and begin playback.
  2. Use the ◀◀/▶▶ buttons to skip tracks.
  3. Press the Rotary Encoder to pause/play.

6.3 USB Playback

  1. Connect a USB storage device to the front USB input.
  2. Press the SOURCE button to select USB.
  3. Use the ◀◀/▶▶ buttons to navigate tracks. Use the preset buttons for folder navigation if applicable.
  4. The unit supports MP3 and WMA audio files.

6.4 Auxiliary Input

  1. Connect an external audio device (e.g., smartphone, portable music player) to the front 3.5mm auxiliary input jack.
  2. Press the SOURCE button to select AUX.
  3. Control playback from the connected device.

6.5 Radio Tuner

  1. Press the SOURCE button to select Tuner.
  2. Press the BAND button to select FM1, FM2, FM3, or AM.
  3. Use the ◀◀/▶▶ buttons to seek for stations. Press and hold for manual tuning.
  4. To store a preset: Tune to the desired station, then press and hold one of the preset buttons (1-6) until you hear a beep.
  5. To recall a preset: Briefly press the desired preset button (1-6).

6.6 Audio Settings

The CDE-151 features a 3-Band Equalizer and Bass Engine for sound customization.

  • Accessing Audio Settings: Press the Rotary Encoder to enter the audio menu. Turn the encoder to navigate through options like Bass, Mid, Treble, Balance, Fader, and Subwoofer level (if connected). Press the encoder to select an option and turn to adjust.
  • Bass Engine: Press the BASS button for quick access to bass enhancement features.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Unit: Wipe the front panel with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Disc Care: Handle CDs by their edges. Keep them clean and free of scratches.
  • USB Port: Keep the USB port free of dust and debris.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
No power Check power connections (Yellow, Red, Black wires). Ensure vehicle battery is charged. Check vehicle fuses.
No sound Check speaker wire connections. Ensure volume is not muted or too low. Verify amplifier remote turn-on (Blue/White wire) if using external amps.
CD/USB not playing Ensure disc is inserted correctly and is not scratched/dirty. For USB, ensure device is formatted correctly (FAT16/32) and contains supported file types (MP3/WMA).
Radio reception is poor Check antenna connection. Ensure antenna is fully extended (if applicable). Try tuning to a stronger station.
