5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Vacuum Sealing with Bags
- Prepare the Bag: Place the food item into a FoodSaver vacuum seal bag. Ensure there is at least 7-10 cm (3-4 inches) of empty space between the food and the top of the bag. For moist foods, leave more space and consider pre-freezing or placing a folded paper towel near the top of the bag to absorb excess moisture and prevent liquid from entering the vacuum channel.
- Position the Bag: Open the lid of the vacuum sealer. Place the open end of the bag into the drip tray area, ensuring it lies flat across the sealing bar and within the vacuum channel.
- Close the Lid: Firmly press down on both sides of the lid until you hear two clicks, indicating it is securely latched. Then, press down on the side edges until you hear two additional clips, which activates the vacuum and seal cycle. The unit will automatically remove air and then heat-seal the bag.
- Release and Check: Once the vacuum and seal cycle is complete, the indicator light will turn off. Press the release buttons (if present) or lift the lid to open. Carefully remove the sealed bag and check for a complete, airtight seal.
5.2. Using the Accessory Hose for Containers and Canisters
- Prepare Container: Place food into a FoodSaver vacuum seal container or canister and secure its lid.
- Connect Hose: Insert one end of the accessory hose into the accessory port on the FoodSaver FFS001 unit (refer to Figure 3). Insert the other end of the hose into the port on the container lid.
- Activate Vacuum: Press the 'Accessory' or 'Vacuum' button on the control panel. The unit will begin to remove air from the container.
- Disconnect: Once the vacuum cycle is complete (the unit will stop automatically), remove the accessory hose from both the appliance and the container.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your FoodSaver FFS001.
- Before Cleaning: Always unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.
- Drip Tray: The removable drip tray should be emptied and washed with warm, soapy water after each use, especially when sealing moist foods. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before reinserting.
- Sealing Strip: Gently wipe the sealing strip with a soft, damp cloth to remove any food particles. Ensure it is dry before closing the lid.
- Storage: Store the appliance with the lid unlatched to prevent compression of the sealing gaskets, which can affect performance over time.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your FoodSaver FFS001, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Unit does not start or vacuum. | Power cord not properly plugged in. Lid not fully closed and latched. | Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Press down firmly on both sides of the lid until you hear two clicks, then press down on the side edges until two additional clips engage. |
| Poor vacuum or incomplete seal. | Bag not properly placed. Moisture or food particles in the sealing area. Wrinkles in the bag. | Ensure the open end of the bag is flat and centered in the vacuum channel. Clean the sealing area and ensure it is dry. Smooth out any wrinkles in the bag before closing the lid. For moist foods, pre-freeze or use a paper towel to absorb excess liquid. |
| Air leaks into the bag after sealing. | Improper seal. Puncture in the bag. | Re-seal the bag, ensuring proper placement and cleanliness of the sealing area. Inspect the bag for any punctures; if found, use a new bag. |
| Accessory hose not vacuuming containers. | Hose not properly connected. Container lid not sealed. | Ensure the accessory hose is firmly connected to both the appliance port and the container lid port. Verify the container lid is securely closed. |
