Setup
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the guitar from its packaging. Inspect the instrument for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Ensure all components are present.
2. Tuning the Guitar
Your Eko NXT guitar is equipped with an onboard tuner. To use it:
- Press the "Tuner" button on the EQ unit to activate the tuner. The display will illuminate.
- Pluck each string individually. The display will show the note being played and indicate if it is sharp, flat, or in tune.
- Adjust the tuning pegs until each string is accurately tuned to its standard pitch (E, A, D, G, B, E from thickest to thinnest string).
- Press the "Tuner" button again to deactivate the tuner.
3. Stringing (If necessary)
The guitar comes pre-strung with nylon strings. If strings need replacement:
- Remove old strings one at a time to maintain neck tension.
- Thread the new nylon string through the bridge hole and tie a knot to secure it.
- Feed the other end through the tuning machine post and wind it securely.
- Stretch the new strings gently and tune them. Nylon strings require several tuning cycles to stabilize.
Operating the Acoustic-Electric Features
Your Eko NXT guitar features an integrated EQ system for amplified performance.
1. Connecting to an Amplifier
Locate the output jack, typically on the lower bout or endpin of the guitar. Connect a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable from this jack to your amplifier or PA system.
2. EQ Controls
The onboard EQ unit allows you to shape your amplified tone. Common controls include:
- Volume: Adjusts the overall output level.
- Bass: Controls the low-frequency response.
- Middle: Controls the mid-frequency response.
- Treble: Controls the high-frequency response.
Experiment with these controls to find your desired sound. Start with all controls at the center (flat) position and make small adjustments.
3. Battery Replacement
The EQ and tuner are powered by a battery, usually located in a compartment on the side of the guitar or within the EQ unit itself. When the battery is low, the tuner display may dim or the amplified sound may become distorted. Replace the battery with the recommended type (e.g., 9V) as needed.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Wipe down the guitar body, neck, and strings with a soft, lint-free cloth after each use to remove sweat and oils. For a deeper clean, use guitar-specific cleaning products sparingly.
2. Storage
Store your guitar in a stable environment, away from extreme temperature changes and humidity fluctuations. A guitar case or gig bag provides protection from dust and minor impacts.
3. String Replacement
Nylon strings should be replaced periodically, typically every 3-6 months depending on usage, to maintain optimal tone and playability.
Troubleshooting
- No Sound When Plugged In: Check the instrument cable, amplifier power, and ensure the guitar's battery is charged.
- Distorted Amplified Sound: This often indicates a low battery. Replace the battery. Also, check amplifier settings.
- Fret Buzz: Minor fret buzz can be caused by low string action or uneven frets. If persistent, professional setup may be required.
- Tuning Instability: New nylon strings take time to stretch and stabilize. Ensure strings are properly wound on tuning posts.
