Thank you for purchasing the SANSUI AU-607 Stereo Integrated Amplifier. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of your amplifier. Please read it thoroughly before operating the unit and retain it for future reference.

2. Safety Instructions
To prevent fire, electric shock, and damage to the unit, please observe the following safety precautions:
- Power Source: Connect the unit only to an AC 100V, 50/60Hz power supply.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not block ventilation openings on the top or sides of the unit. Maintain at least 10 cm (4 inches) clearance around the unit.
- Water and Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the unit.
- Heat Sources: Keep the unit away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other heat-producing appliances.
- Cleaning: Unplug the unit from the wall outlet before cleaning. Use a dry cloth only.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to service this unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
3. Product Overview
3.1 Front Panel Controls (Left Side)

- Power/Protector Indicator: Lights red when power is on. Flashes or turns off if the protection circuit is activated.
- Speakers Selector: Selects speaker outputs A, B, A+B, or Off.
- Treble Control: Adjusts high-frequency response.
- Bass Control: Adjusts low-frequency response.
- Power Switch: Turns the amplifier on or off.
- Phones Jack: For connecting stereo headphones.
- Tone Defeat Switch: Bypasses the Bass and Treble controls for a flat frequency response.
- Subsonic Filter Switch: Activates a filter to cut ultra-low frequencies below 16Hz, which can cause speaker cone flutter.
- Loudness Switch: Engages loudness compensation for enhanced bass and treble at low volume levels.
3.2 Front Panel Controls (Right Side)

- Volume Control: Adjusts the overall sound level. This is a low-error 2-gang detent volume control.
- Balance Control: Adjusts the relative volume between the left and right channels.
- Input Selector: Selects the desired audio source (Phono-1, Phono-2, Tuner, AUX).
- Tape Play Selector: Selects the source for tape playback (Source, Tape-1, Tape-2).
- Copy Selector: Used for dubbing between tape decks (Off, 1→2, 2→1).
3.3 Rear Panel Connections

- Input Terminals: RCA jacks for Phono (1 & 2), Tuner, and AUX sources.
- Tape Input/Output Terminals: RCA jacks for connecting Tape Deck 1 and Tape Deck 2.
- Pre Out / Main In Terminals: RCA jacks for separating the preamplifier and power amplifier sections. These are connected by removable jumpers for normal operation.
- Speaker Terminals: Connect your speakers to System A and/or System B.
- AC Outlets (Switched/Unswitched): For connecting other audio components to draw power from the amplifier.
- Ground Terminal (GND): For connecting the ground wire from a turntable.
4. Setup
4.1 Placement
Place the amplifier on a stable, level surface. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for proper ventilation. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.

4.2 Connecting Speakers
- Ensure the amplifier is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.
- Connect your speakers to the SPEAKER A or SPEAKER B terminals on the rear panel. Match the positive (+) terminal of the speaker to the positive (+) terminal of the amplifier, and the negative (-) to the negative (-).
- For optimal sound, use high-quality speaker cables.
4.3 Connecting Audio Sources
- Connect your turntable to the PHONO 1 or PHONO 2 input jacks. If your turntable has a ground wire, connect it to the GND terminal.
- Connect a tuner to the TUNER input jacks.
- Connect other audio devices (e.g., CD player, cassette deck) to the AUX input jacks.
- For tape recording and playback, connect your tape decks to the TAPE 1 and TAPE 2 REC/PLAY jacks.
4.4 Pre-Main Separation
The AU-607 allows for separation of its preamplifier and power amplifier sections. To use an external preamplifier or power amplifier, remove the jumpers connecting the PRE OUT and MAIN IN terminals on the rear panel. Connect your external preamplifier to the MAIN IN terminals or your external power amplifier to the PRE OUT terminals.
5. Operating Instructions
- Power On: Ensure all connections are secure. Plug the power cord into an AC outlet. Press the POWER switch on the front panel. The Power/Protector indicator will light red.
- Speaker Selection: Use the SPEAKERS selector to choose your desired speaker system (A, B, or A+B). Select 'Off' when using headphones only.
- Input Selection: Turn the INPUT SELECTOR knob to choose the audio source you wish to listen to (Phono-1, Phono-2, Tuner, AUX).
- Volume Adjustment: Slowly turn the VOLUME knob clockwise to increase the sound level. Adjust to a comfortable listening level.
- Tone Controls: Use the BASS and TREBLE knobs to adjust the low and high frequencies to your preference. For a flat frequency response, engage the TONE DEFEAT switch.
- Balance Adjustment: Use the BALANCE knob to adjust the sound distribution between the left and right channels.
- Subsonic Filter: If you hear unwanted low-frequency rumble or notice excessive speaker cone movement, engage the SUBSONIC FILTER switch.
- Loudness: For listening at low volume levels, engage the LOUDNESS switch to enhance bass and treble.
- Tape Functions: Use the TAPE PLAY selector to listen to a connected tape deck. Use the COPY selector for dubbing between two tape decks.
- Power Off: Press the POWER switch again to turn off the amplifier.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
- Ventilation: Ensure the ventilation grilles on the top and sides of the unit remain clear of dust and obstructions. Periodically clean dust from these areas using a soft brush or vacuum cleaner.
- Connections: Periodically check all cable connections for tightness and corrosion.
- Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, unplug it from the power outlet and cover it to protect against dust.

7. Troubleshooting

The SANSUI AU-607 is designed to pursue the essence of audio, featuring improved inherent characteristics and enhanced physical properties, utilizing a wide-range DC amplifier configuration for broad frequency response. The DC power amplifier section incorporates newly developed dual FETs and unique current mirror circuits. It also includes a high-precision 8-transistor equalizer section with improved distortion and signal-to-noise ratio. Independent large power transformers and power supply circuits are used for both left and right channels, along with a highly reliable protection circuit design.
