Setup
1. Transmitter Battery Installation
Open the battery compartment on the back of the T4VF transmitter. Insert the NiCd battery pack, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
2. Receiver and Servo Connection
Connect the servos to the corresponding channels on the receiver (e.g., Channel 1 for Aileron, Channel 2 for Elevator, Channel 3 for Throttle, Channel 4 for Rudder). Connect the receiver battery pack to the designated battery port on the receiver.
3. Aircraft Installation
Securely mount the receiver and servos within your aircraft model. Ensure that control linkages are free-moving and correctly aligned with the servo arms and control surfaces.
4. Servo Reversing
The T4VF transmitter features servo reversing switches for all four channels. Before flight, verify that each control surface moves in the correct direction relative to the stick input. Adjust the reversing switches as needed.
5. Trainer System
The built-in trainer system allows the 4VF to be linked to another Futaba FM transmitter for instructional purposes. This requires a compatible FM trainer cord (sold separately). Refer to the trainer cord's instructions for connection details.
Operation
1. Pre-Flight Checks
Before each flight, perform the following checks:
- Check transmitter and receiver battery levels using the built-in power meter on the transmitter.
- Ensure the correct frequency flag is attached to the transmitter antenna.
- Verify all control surfaces respond correctly and smoothly to transmitter inputs.
- Check for any loose connections or damaged components.
2. Basic Controls
The T4VF transmitter provides control over four primary functions:
- Throttle: Controls engine speed or motor power.
- Aileron: Controls roll (banking) of the aircraft.
- Elevator: Controls pitch (nose up/down) of the aircraft.
- Rudder: Controls yaw (nose left/right) of the aircraft.
3. Trims
Each channel has a trim lever to make fine adjustments to the neutral position of the control surfaces, allowing for stable flight without constant stick input.
Maintenance
1. Battery Care
NiCd batteries require proper charging and discharging to maintain their lifespan. Use the included charger and follow its instructions. Avoid overcharging or deep discharging. Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
2. Cleaning
Clean the transmitter and receiver with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using solvents or abrasive cleaners.
3. Storage
When not in use, store the radio control system in a protective case, away from extreme temperatures, moisture, and direct sunlight. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Futaba Skysport 4VF-FM system, consider the following:
- No Power: Check battery connections and charge levels for both transmitter and receiver.
- Erratic Control: Ensure antenna is fully extended on both transmitter and receiver. Check for interference sources. Verify all connections are secure.
