Safety Information

WARNING: Redcat Racing vehicles are hobby-grade and operate at high speeds. Always exercise extreme caution during operation to prevent injury to yourself or others, and to avoid property damage.

  • Never operate the vehicle on public roads or near pedestrians, children, or animals.
  • Always operate the vehicle in a safe, open area with sufficient space.
  • Adult supervision is required for operation by children.
  • Do not touch the motor, Electronic Speed Control (ESC), or other electronic components immediately after use, as they can become very hot and cause burns.
  • Never attempt to re-assemble the motor, ESC, and receiver. These components are factory-calibrated. Any malfunction incurred by contrived upgrading and modification will void all warranty.
  • Always ensure proper ventilation when charging batteries. Never charge unattended.
  • Use only the specified battery types and chargers. Mixing battery types or using incorrect chargers can lead to fire or explosion.

Operating Your Vehicle

1. Powering On

  • First, turn on the 2.4GHz radio transmitter. The indicator light should illuminate.
  • Next, turn on the power switch on the Blackout XTE. The vehicle's electronics will initialize.
  • Important: Always turn on the transmitter first and turn it off last to prevent loss of control.

2. Basic Controls

  • Throttle: Pull the trigger on the transmitter towards you to accelerate forward.
  • Brake: Push the trigger away from you to apply the brake.
  • Reverse: After braking, push the trigger away from you again to engage reverse.
  • Steering: Turn the steering wheel on the transmitter left or right to steer the vehicle.

3. Transmitter Adjustments

  • Steering Trim: If the vehicle does not track straight when the steering wheel is centered, adjust the steering trim knob until it drives in a straight line.
  • Throttle Trim: If the vehicle moves forward or backward without throttle input, adjust the throttle trim knob until it remains stationary.
  • Steering Dual Rate: This adjustment limits the maximum steering angle. If the vehicle is difficult to control or rolls over frequently during turns, reduce the steering dual rate.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the life and performance of your Blackout XTE.

  • Cleaning: After each run, especially in dirty or wet conditions, clean the vehicle to remove dirt, mud, and debris. Use compressed air or a soft brush. While electronics are waterproof, avoid submerging the entire vehicle.
  • Inspecting Screws: Periodically check all screws for tightness. Apply blue (medium strength) thread locker to screws threaded into metal components. Do NOT use thread locker on screws threaded into plastic.
  • Shock Absorbers: Inspect the oil-filled adjustable shocks for leaks or damage. Ensure they operate smoothly.
  • Drivetrain: Check the gears and driveshafts for any obstructions or excessive wear.
  • Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place. For NiMH batteries, it's recommended to fully discharge them before long-term storage. For LiPo batteries, store them at a "storage charge" voltage (refer to your LiPo charger manual).

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Vehicle does not respond to transmitter.Transmitter or vehicle not powered on; low battery in transmitter or vehicle; binding issue.Ensure both are powered on (transmitter first). Check and replace/charge batteries. Re-bind transmitter to receiver (refer to radio system manual).
Vehicle drives slowly or stops unexpectedly.Low vehicle battery; motor/ESC overheating; debris in drivetrain.Recharge battery. Allow motor/ESC to cool down. Inspect and clear any debris from gears and axles.
Steering is erratic or unresponsive.Loose steering components; damaged servo; incorrect steering trim.Check steering linkages and servo horn for tightness. Adjust steering trim. If problem persists, servo may need replacement.
Motor is hot after operation.Normal for brushed motors; excessive load or continuous high-speed running. This is normal. Avoid touching the motor immediately after use. Allow adequate cooling time between runs.
