1. Introduction

The TENMARS TM-195 is a specialized instrument designed for measuring and monitoring Radio Frequency (RF) electromagnetic field strength. It is capable of measuring frequencies within the range of 50MHz to 3.5GHz. This device utilizes a digital, triaxial measurement method with isotropic directional characteristics, making it suitable for assessing RF exposure from various sources such as microwave ovens, cell towers, smart meters, and cordless phones. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your TM-195 meter.

2. Setup

2.1 Battery Installation

The TM-195 meter operates on a 9V battery (NEDA 1604, IEC 6F22, or JIS 006P). To install or replace the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide the cover downwards to open the compartment.
  3. Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Close the battery compartment by sliding the cover back into place until it clicks securely.

  • LCD Display: Liquid-crystal display, 4-1/2 digits, maximum reading 19999. Shows measurement values, units, and mode indicators.
  • Max/AVG/Right Button: Cycles through instantaneous, maximum, and average measurement values. Also used for navigation in menus.
  • Unit/Enter/Switch Button: Changes measurement units (mV/m, V/m, µA/m, mA/m, µW/m², mW/m², µW/cm²). Also used to confirm selections.
  • Record/Time/Left Button: Initiates data recording or sets time. Also used for navigation in menus.
  • Hold & Up Button: Freezes the current display reading. Also used for upward navigation.
  • XYZ/Mem/Down Button: Toggles between XYZ axis display and accesses memory functions. Also used for downward navigation.
  • Power Button (①): Turns the device on or off.
  • Backlight/Set Button: Activates the display backlight and accesses settings menu.

3.2 Basic Measurement

To take a basic RF field strength measurement:

  1. Turn on the meter by pressing the Power Button.
  2. Hold the meter in the area you wish to measure. The spherical sensor should be oriented towards the potential source of RF.
  3. The LCD will display the instantaneous measured value.
  4. Press the Unit/Enter/Switch Button to cycle through available measurement units (e.g., µW/m², V/m).
  5. Press the Max/AVG/Right Button to view the maximum value, average value, or maximum average value recorded since power-on or reset.

3.3 Advanced Features

  • Audible Alarm: The device features an audible buzzer alarm. The alarm threshold is adjustable and can be turned ON/OFF via the settings menu.
  • Calibration Factor (CAL): The calibration factor can be adjusted to fine-tune measurements if necessary. Refer to the detailed user manual for specific calibration procedures.
  • Data Memory: The TM-195 can store up to 200 data sets for manual data memory and reading. Use the XYZ/Mem/Down Button to access and manage stored data.
  • Auto Power Off: The meter has an auto power-off function to conserve battery life. The default time is 15 minutes, but it can be adjusted from 0 to 99 minutes in the settings.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Battery Replacement

Replace the 9V battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display or if the device fails to power on. Follow the steps outlined in Section 2.1.

4.2 Cleaning

To clean the device, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the casing or display. Ensure no moisture enters the device.

4.3 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage. Store the TM-195 in a cool, dry place within the specified storage temperature and humidity ranges:

  • Storage Temperature: -10°C to +60°C (14°F to 140°F)
  • Storage Humidity: 0% to 80% RH (non-condensing)

5. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on:
    • Check if the 9V battery is correctly installed with proper polarity.
    • Replace the battery with a new one, as the included battery may sometimes be depleted.
  • Display shows erratic or very high readings upon startup:
    • This can occasionally occur. Try removing and reinserting the battery to reset the device.
    • Ensure no strong RF sources are immediately adjacent to the sensor during power-on.
  • Readings seem inaccurate:
    • Verify that the correct measurement unit is selected for your application.
    • Check the calibration factor (CAL) setting. If unsure, reset to default or consult the full manual.
    • Ensure the sensor is not obstructed and is positioned correctly relative to the source.
  • No audible alarm:
    • Check the alarm function settings to ensure it is enabled and the threshold is set appropriately.
