3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Placement:
- Position the solar mat in an area that receives maximum direct sunlight throughout the day.
- Ensure the mat is on a flat, stable surface, free from sharp objects that could puncture the material.
3.2 Connecting to Your Pool System:
- Ensure your filter pump is turned off and unplugged before beginning installation.
- Connect one end of a 1.25-inch hose (not included) to the outlet of your filter pump.
- Attach the other end of this hose to the inlet of the solar heater mat using the provided 1.25-inch hose attachment point. If your pump uses 1.50-inch hoses, use the appropriate Adaptor A or B.
- Connect a second 1.25-inch hose (not included) to the outlet of the solar heater mat.
- Attach the other end of this second hose to the pool's water return inlet.
- Utilize the bypass valve to control water flow through the solar mat. This allows you to direct water either through the mat for heating or bypass it when heating is not desired.

3.3 Multiple Mat Connection:
For larger pools or enhanced heating, multiple solar mats can be connected in series. Refer to the table below for recommended quantities based on pump flow rate.

4. Operation
Once installed, operating your solar water heater mat is straightforward.
- After ensuring all connections are secure and the mat is properly positioned, turn on your filter pump.
- Adjust the bypass valve to direct water flow through the solar mat. Water will circulate from your pool, through the mat where it absorbs solar heat, and then return to the pool.
- The mat is designed to increase water temperature by 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on the intensity and duration of sunlight.
- For optimal heating, operate the mat during peak sunlight hours.
- When heating is not desired, or during periods of low sunlight, adjust the bypass valve to divert water away from the solar mat.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will prolong the life and efficiency of your solar water heater mat.
- Cleaning: Periodically inspect the mat for debris (leaves, dirt) and gently clean the surface with water and a soft brush if necessary. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Leak Inspection: Regularly check all hose connections and the mat itself for any signs of leaks. Tighten connections as needed.
- Winter Storage: Before freezing temperatures arrive, disconnect the mat from your pool system. Drain all water from the mat and hoses. Clean and dry the mat thoroughly. Fold the mat for compact storage in a dry, protected area away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6.1 Insufficient Heating:
- Sunlight Exposure: Ensure the mat receives maximum direct sunlight throughout the day. Relocate if necessary.
- Pump Flow Rate: Verify your filter pump's flow rate is within the compatible range (less than 2,000 GPH). An insufficient flow rate can reduce heating efficiency.
- Bypass Valve Position: Confirm the bypass valve is set to direct water through the solar mat.
- Multiple Mats: For larger pools, consider adding additional solar mats to increase the heating surface area.
6.2 Leaks:
- Hose Connections: Check all hose connections for tightness. Ensure O-rings are properly seated and not damaged.
- Mat Damage: Inspect the mat surface for any punctures or tears. Small holes may be repairable with a vinyl repair kit (not included).

- Obstructions: Check hoses and the mat for any blockages or kinks that might restrict water flow.
