1. Introduction

The TENMARS TM-195 is a 3-axis high-frequency electromagnetic field strength meter designed for measuring and monitoring Radio Frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields. It is capable of measuring frequencies ranging from 50MHz to 3.5GHz. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your device.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the device.

  • Do not attempt to repair or modify the device. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Ensure the battery compartment is securely closed during operation.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Keep the device away from strong magnetic fields.
  • Dispose of batteries according to local regulations.

3. Product Overview

The TM-195 features a compact design with an integrated 3-axis isotropic sensor for comprehensive RF field strength measurements.

3.1. Components

  • 3-Axis Isotropic Sensor: Spherical sensor for comprehensive field detection.
  • LCD Display: 4-1/2 digits, maximum reading 19999, shows measured values, units, and status indicators.
  • Control Buttons: For power, mode selection, unit change, data hold, alarm settings, and data memory.
  • Battery Compartment: Located at the rear for 9V battery.

3.2. Display Indicators

  • XYZ: Indicates triaxial measurement mode.
  • mV/m, V/m, µA/m, mA/m, µW/m², mW/m², µW/cm²: Measurement units.
  • MAX/AVG: Maximum and Average value indicators.
  • HOLD: Data hold function active.
  • ALARM: Alarm function active.
  • Battery Icon: Indicates battery level.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Insert a new 9V battery (NEDA 1604, IEC 6F22, or JIS 006P), observing polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2. Initial Power On

Press the Power button (labeled with a circle and vertical line) to turn on the device. The display will illuminate and show the current RF field strength.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

  • To power on, press the Power button.
  • To power off, press and hold the Power button for approximately 2 seconds.

5.2. Measurement Modes (MAX/AVG)

Press the MAX/AVG button to cycle through measurement display modes:

  • Instantaneous Value: Displays the current real-time measurement.
  • Maximum Value (MAX): Displays the highest value recorded since power-on or reset.
  • Average Value (AVG): Displays the average value recorded over time.
  • Maximum Average Value (MAX AVG): Displays the maximum of the averaged values.

5.3. Unit Selection

Press the UNIT/ENTER button to change the measurement unit. Available units include:

  • mV/m (millivolts per meter)
  • V/m (volts per meter)
  • µA/m (microamperes per meter)
  • mA/m (milliamperes per meter)
  • µW/m² (microwatts per square meter)
  • mW/m² (milliwatts per square meter)
  • µW/cm² (microwatts per square centimeter)

5.4. Data Hold (HOLD/ALARM)

Press the HOLD/ALARM button briefly to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.

5.5. Alarm Function

To set the alarm threshold:

  1. Press and hold the HOLD/ALARM button for approximately 2 seconds to enter alarm setting mode.
  2. Use the MAX/AVG and REC/TIME buttons to adjust the threshold value.
  3. Press UNIT/ENTER to confirm and save the setting.
  4. The audible buzzer alarm will activate if the measured value exceeds the set threshold.

5.6. Data Memory (XYZ/MEM)

The device supports manual storage of up to 200 data sets.

  1. To save a reading, press the XYZ/MEM button briefly. The current reading will be stored.
  2. To recall stored data, press and hold the XYZ/MEM button for approximately 2 seconds. Use the MAX/AVG and REC/TIME buttons to navigate through stored records.
  3. Press UNIT/ENTER to exit data recall mode.

5.7. Calibration Factor (CAL) Adjustment

The calibration factor can be adjusted if necessary. Refer to the SET button and its associated menu for this advanced setting. This feature allows for fine-tuning the meter's response.

5.8. Auto Power Off

The device has an adjustable auto power-off function. The default time is 15 minutes. To adjust this setting:

  1. Press and hold the SET button to enter the settings menu.
  2. Navigate to the auto power-off option using the MAX/AVG or REC/TIME buttons.
  3. Use the MAX/AVG and REC/TIME buttons to set the desired time (0 to 99 minutes).
  4. Press UNIT/ENTER to confirm and save. Setting to 0 disables auto power-off.

6. Maintenance

  • Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
  • Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Check battery installation and ensure the battery has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Inconsistent readings: Ensure the device is held steady and away from large metallic objects or other strong RF sources that might interfere with measurements. Verify the selected unit is appropriate for the measurement range.
  • Alarm not sounding: Check if the alarm function is enabled and the threshold is set correctly.
  • Display is blank or dim: Replace the battery.
