1. Introduction

5. Setup

5.1 Physical Installation

The Smart Videohub 20x20 is designed for 1RU rack mounting. Secure the unit into a standard 19-inch equipment rack using appropriate rack screws. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

5.2 Power Connection

Connect the included power cable to the AC power input on the rear panel of the Videohub and then to a grounded electrical outlet. The unit will power on automatically.

5.3 Video Connections

Connect your SDI video sources (e.g., cameras, playback devices) to the SDI video inputs (1-20) on the rear panel. Connect your SDI video destinations (e.g., monitors, recorders) to the SDI video outputs (1-20). The Videohub automatically detects SD, HD, and 6G-SDI formats.

5.4 Network Connection

For remote control, connect an Ethernet cable from the Videohub's Ethernet port to your network switch or router. This allows control via the Blackmagic Videohub software or iPad app.

5.5 Reference Input

For synchronized video operations, connect a Blackburst or TriSync reference signal to the 'REF IN' port on the rear panel. This is essential for maintaining stable timing across multiple devices in a broadcast environment.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Front Panel Control

  1. Select Source: Press the 'SRC' button, then use the numbered buttons (1-20) or the spin knob to select the desired input source. The LCD will display the selected source.
  2. Select Destination: Press the 'DEST' button, then use the numbered buttons (1-20) or the spin knob to select the desired output destination. The LCD will display the selected destination.
  3. Execute Route: Press the 'TAKE' button to apply the selected source to the selected destination. The routing change will occur instantly.
  4. Clear Selection: Press the 'CLEAR' button to deselect any active source or destination.
  5. Menu Navigation: Press the 'MENU' button to access system settings and configurations via the LCD and spin knob.

6.2 Software Control

Install the Blackmagic Videohub software on your Mac OS X or Windows computer. Ensure the Videohub is connected to the same network. The software provides a graphical interface for routing, naming inputs/outputs, and configuring advanced settings. An iPad app is also available for wireless control.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

To clean the unit, disconnect it from power. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols, as they may damage the unit.

  • Intermittent Signal: Inspect SDI cables for damage. Ensure connectors are securely fastened. Check for proper termination if applicable.
