Figure 1: DECA FL1113D Automatic Battery Charger. This image displays the charger in its packaging, highlighting the model number FL1113D, compatibility with WET, AGM, and GEL batteries, and key features like voltage selection (6V, 12V, 24V) and current settings (Min, Med, Max).

Key Features:

  • Automatic multi-stage charging process.
  • Desulfation program for sulfated batteries.
  • Suitable for WET, AGM, GEL, and CA lead-acid batteries.
  • Selectable charging voltages: 6V, 12V, 24V.
  • Selectable charging currents: 1.5A (Min), 3.5A (Med), 7.0A (Max).
  • Automatic battery test function.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the charger from its packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Ventilation: Place the charger in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture.
  3. Battery Connection:
    • Ensure the charger is unplugged from the AC power outlet.
    • Connect the red (+) clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
    • Connect the black (-) clamp to the negative (-) terminal of the battery. For vehicles, connect the black clamp to the vehicle chassis away from the battery and fuel line.
    • Ensure connections are secure.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the charger's AC power cord into a standard electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions

1. Selecting Voltage and Current:

The charger automatically detects the battery voltage (6V, 12V, or 24V) upon connection. However, you can manually select the desired voltage if needed using the 'Volt' button. Similarly, select the appropriate charging current (Min, Med, Max) based on your battery's capacity using the 'Ah' button.

  • Min (1.5A): For batteries with capacity 8-30Ah.
  • Med (3.5A): For batteries with capacity 15-65Ah.
  • Max (7.0A): For batteries with capacity 30-130Ah.

2. Starting the Charging Process:

After connecting the battery and selecting the desired settings, press the START/STOP button to begin charging. The charger will initiate its automatic multi-stage charging cycle.

3. Desulfation Program (Equalize):

If the battery is heavily sulfated, the charger may automatically enter a desulfation (equalize) mode. This process helps to restore battery capacity. You can also manually initiate or stop this process using the EQUALIZE/STOP button if available or indicated by the charger's display.

4. Charging Indicators:

  • CHARGE LED: Illuminates when the battery is actively charging.
  • OK LED: Illuminates when the battery is fully charged and ready for use. The charger will then switch to maintenance mode.
  • SULFATED LED: Indicates that the battery is sulfated and the desulfation program is active or recommended.

5. Stopping the Charging Process:

Press the START/STOP button to stop charging. Disconnect the AC power cord first, then disconnect the battery clamps (black negative first, then red positive).

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from power before cleaning. Wipe the casing with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Ensure cables are neatly coiled and not kinked.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the charging cables and clamps for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion. Replace damaged components immediately.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Charger does not turn on.No AC power; faulty connection.Check power outlet and connections. Ensure charger is plugged in securely.
Charger not charging battery.Incorrect battery connection; battery deeply discharged or faulty; incorrect voltage/current selection.Verify battery clamp connections. Check battery voltage. Ensure correct voltage and current settings are selected. Battery may be beyond recovery.
SULFATED LED is on.Battery is sulfated. The charger is attempting to desulfate the battery. Allow the process to complete. If it persists, the battery may be severely damaged.
Charger gets warm during operation.Normal operation; poor ventilation. Some warmth is normal. Ensure adequate ventilation around the charger. If it becomes excessively hot, disconnect and contact support.
